We’re delighted to share details of our Primary Music CLPL programme for 2026, offering Glasgow primary teachers high-quality, practical professional learning across a range of music-making approaches.
All sessions are:
- Free for Glasgow teachers
- No prior musical experience required
- Practical and classroom-ready

Each course runs as a short block of three twilight sessions (3:30–4:30pm).
🎶 Samba

Time: 3:30 – 4:30pm
Venue: Knightswood Primary
This practical course explores engaging classroom activities using samba instruments such as first and second surdos and hand percussion. Participants will develop skills and confidence in leading samba-based activities with a group or class.
Across the three sessions, teachers will:
- Explore core samba features including groove and call and response
- Take part in hands-on practical music-making
- Learn strategies suitable for whole-class teaching or school samba groups
- Be directed to resources to support ongoing learning and teaching
Suitable for teachers who already lead (or plan to establish) a school samba band, as well as those looking to deliver whole-class samba lessons.
🎤 Choir

Venue: St Mary’s Primary
This course supports teachers to lead a choir or singing group in their school, with a strong focus on practical strategies and inclusive approaches.
Over the three sessions, participants will:
- Explore resources and materials for school choirs and singing groups
- Develop confidence in leading singing with groups of pupils
- Receive advice on vocal technique, ensemble skills and organisation
- Share ideas for establishing or developing a school choir
Suitable for teachers who already lead a choir and for those interested in starting a new school choir or singing group.
🎼 Recorder

Venue: Quarry Brae Primary
This course equips teachers with the skills and confidence to deliver engaging group recorder lessons in the primary classroom.
Participants will:
- Develop basic recorder playing techniques
- Learn how to read and teach simple notation
- Explore creative, inclusive classroom strategies
- Experience example lessons and practical teaching approaches
- Be signposted to useful resources for teaching recorder
Participants are asked to bring their own recorder to each session.
🌍 World Music

Time: 3:30 – 4:30pm
Venue: Riverbank Primary
This practical course supports teachers to incorporate different cultures and languages into their classrooms through engaging, inclusive music-making.
Over the three sessions, participants will:
- Learn a repertoire of easy and accessible folk songs from a range of cultures
- Explore songs in different languages, including French, Italian, Spanish, Swahili and Akan
- Develop confidence teaching songs with instruments, movement, games and dances
- Gain background information and historical context to support classroom learning
- Explore teaching tips and model lessons suitable for P1–P5 learners
Sessions are highly practical and designed to support teachers in delivering rich, culturally responsive music experiences that link music, language and movement.
