Glasgow Schools’ Symphony Orchestra

Glasgow Schools’ Symphony Orchestra offers young people from across Glasgow the chance to take part in advanced orchestral training, explore exciting repertoire and perform in major concerts. The programme includes rehearsals, concerts and a residential course.

Who it’s for

GSSO is for young orchestral players from across Glasgow’s schools who are ready for advanced ensemble work.

As part of the audition process, applicants are asked to:

  • perform a short solo piece at approximately Grade 4 level or above
  • play a scale of their choice
  • complete a short sight-reading exercise

What happens

The programme includes:

  • seven Sunday rehearsals
  • five concerts
  • a residential course

Young people develop advanced orchestral skills, rehearse challenging repertoire and perform as part of one of the city’s flagship music ensembles.

Where and when

Auditions: City Halls, during the week beginning Monday 5 October 2026. Families are informed of audition times by email after their application is received.

Main programme: rehearsals and concerts take place across November and December 2026, February and March 2027, and June 2029. The residential runs from Monday 14 June to Friday 18 June 2027.
