Brass Ensembles
Our brass ensembles support young brass players at different stages of their musical development, from beginner level onwards. They offer the chance to rehearse, perform and grow in confidence as part of a musical community.
The brass pathway begins with brass ensemble and can lead on to:
- Concert Band
- Symphonic Wind Band
- Glasgow Schools’ Symphony Orchestra
Who it’s for
Our brass ensembles are for young people who play
- Trumpet/Cornet
- French Horn/Tenor Horn
- Baritone
- Trombone
- Euphonium
- Tuba
The brass pathway includes:
- Junior Brass Ensemble for players from beginner to Grade 4
- Senior Brass Ensemble for players working at Grade 5 and above
If you are unsure which ensemble is the best fit for your child, please speak to their teacher or use the contact details on the page for advice.
What happens
Pupils rehearse as part of a brass ensemble, developing confidence, musical skills and ensemble awareness through playing with others. These groups help young musicians build technique, listen carefully and prepare for performances as part of a team.
Where and when
Venue: City Halls, 87 to 101 Albion Street, Glasgow, G1 1LH.

How progression works
Progression through the brass pathway is not automatic.
As young people develop their musical and ensemble skills, they may move from brass ensemble into Concert Band, then Symphonic Wind Band, and ultimately Glasgow Schools’ Symphony Orchestra. Tutors and conductors will support this process when pupils are ready for the next step.
