Well done!

A big well done to Primary 5 today! Their Sukkot assembly was fantastic – everyone was trying their hardest, and many teachers and other children came up to me afterwards to tell me how much they enjoyed it!

I hope everyone enjoys their few days off now – a wee reminder that we are not back until Wednesday now. There is no homework this week, as it is a holiday, and the class have worked so hard this week on their assembly.

We have a special guest in school next week, Tom Renwick, from Maths on Track. He will be working with our class on Wednesday morning – he did a training session with staff in August, and he is both very knowledgeable and very entertaining, so Primary 5 is in for a treat!

For now, rest and relax and have a lovely break – come back bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on Wednesday!

Update and Homework

Hello! I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend.

This week, we have been very busy in Primary 5. The class has been working very hard. The Rectangles are working on multiplication and division with carrying, the Triangles have been finishing their unit on addition and subtraction with exchanging, the Circles have been looking at chance and probability, and the Squares have been working on dividing by 2. We have also been studying Alexander III, as part of our topic on the Scottish Wars of Independence. The class acted out some scenes about Alexander this week, made a cartoon strip and wrote a newspaper article about his untimely death. We’ve also been hard at work, practising our assembly, which will be in the afternoon of Thursday 20th September (next week). Phew! I don’t know how we managed to fit so much in to only three days of school!!!

Homework this week is the usual spelling words to look, cover, write, say and check. Learners can choose a spelling activity from the grid. There is also a maths sheet, where learners can choose which level they want to attempt (there are four) – it’s a version of Countdown.

We should be getting our very own Primary 5 Twitter account in the next week or so, and a link to this will be embedded in this class blog. It will be updated daily, by myself and the class! Can I remind parents/carers who have not sent back forms about photography permissions, that if you do not bring this back, we cannot include your child in any photos, to be used on the blog, Twitter, or even in the classroom? Just be aware of this, and if you would like your child to be in the photos, please send back the form asap.

Thank you for all your support, and thanks to all in Primary 5 for their hard work this week! Well done.

Shanah Tovah!

Shanah Tovah! I hope you all have a restful holiday, and that everyone comes back full of energy on Wednesday!

Here are some of the Rosh Hashanah cards that Primary 5 have been making – their topic this year has been Taschlich, so many of the cards reflect this. I am very impressed with their artistic skills!

Many of the class have also been making antonym board games this week, and again, have showed their creative sides! Here are a selection.

Homework

The class have been given out homework, which is due on the 12th September because of the holidays next Monday and Tuesday. A couple of students have mentioned that they are finding it hard to complete homework because of extra-curricular clubs. If that is the case, please just let me know – homework is not mandatory, and I will understand!

The whole class have ten spelling words to Look, Cover, Write, Say, Check. Instead of sentences, this week’s spelling activity is writing their spelling words from small to big (the word with the least number of letters first, leading up to the longest word).

Rectangles have maths questions on multiplication, our topic for just now. Triangles have maths questions on addition, still working with hundreds, tens and units. Circles are looking at number systems from round the world and throughout history, so they have some hieroglyphic puzzles to solve. Squares are working on their multiplication, so they have questions on the 2x table for this week.
