Happy Halloween

The Oak class would like to wish everyone a Happy Halloween!  We have made lots of Halloween decorations for the class, made a pumpkin bird feeder, enjoyed seeing all our friends virtually in our school Halloween parade then finished the week with our class Halloween party.

We were effective contributors in making our bird feeder and getting the class ready for Halloween with some spooktacular decorations.

IDL: Beech Class Hallowe’en

Here are some photos from our Halloween week in the Beech class. We were all effective contributors as we took part in a range of fun activities and loved dressing up on Friday for our class Halowe’en party!

The Beech class have had a fun week celebrating Hallowe’en!  We took part in a music lesson where we learned to play percussion along to the ‘Skeleton Dance’.

We made lots of pumpkins from recycled materials as part of our ECO campaign in school.  Our target is based on ‘Zero Hunger’ so rather than have lots of food waste from real pumpkins, we made our own pumpkins from recyclable materials.

In cookery, we made rice krispie pumpkins and monster cookies!

FAOL – ECO

Global Goal 3

Good Health and Wellbeing

We are really lucky to have our sensory garden to explore and complete garden walks. We are then able to enjoy some healthy exercise and get some fresh air during the school day. We have also been exploring some healthy foods and using pictures to create a healthy and unhealthy lunch box. It was great fun. We also made posters to put in in the classroom to show how we can be healthy.

FAOL Science/Eco – Pumpkins

Responsible Citizens and Confident Individuals

During our fun Halloween activities, the Sunflower’s enjoyed carving pumpkins with designs of their own choice. Each child actively participated by scooping the  pumpkin contents into a sensory bag and moving the seeds around the pumpkin face.  Afterwards, we were able to add cereal to our leftover pumpkins to create bird feeders for the garden.

IDL – Technologies

We have been exploring vegetables  real life, pictures and symbols. This week we used the SMARTboard and were able to choose from a choice of two colours.  We were able to use our hand or finger to point and make a choice. Some were able to identify each coloured circle and then choose the correct colour. Everyone enjoys using the SMARTboard and are confident individuals at using their hand or finger to make a choice.

IDL – Literacy

Whilst exploring the story of Oliver’s Vegetables we did many activities.

We worked on our fine motor skills and were able to rip off the leaves of the cabbage. We were also able to split the pea pods and pull out the peas from inside. The children were confident individuals and able to explore the pea pods with their hands snapping them to see what was inside.  We all had fun exploring and working on our fine motor skills.

In the Oak class we celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights.  We were confident individuals creating our very own rangoli patterns.  We enjoyed listening to the story about Dipal and how his family celebrates Diwali.  We were all keen sample some of the food that Dipal spoke about in the story.

We were presented with a certificate for taking part in the Willowbank Rangoli competition.

Producing a Sound SQA

The Beech class had a really fun morning experimenting with percussion instruments and playing along to a spooky Halloween song on the board.  We were confident individuals as we followed the music notes on the board and played our instruments at the right time by recognising our percussion symbol and playing our instrument when our symbol appeared on the board.
