Science Theme – Elephant Toothpaste

Successful Learners   Effective Contributors

The Moonbeams were learning about the importance of brushing teeth and as part of our theme we mixed some ingredients together to create a reaction. The children all observed the changes once the ingredients were mixed together. They then worked hard together to scrub the ‘Elephant’s’ teeth clean. We also learned some interesting facts about Elephants. Did you know Elephants can’t jump and can live to be up to 70 years old?

We were all confident individuals following the verbal instructions to make our enterprise items.

We were successful learners writing our letters to Santa and then we enjoyed a walk in the sunshine to post them.

CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES

*Successful Learners* *Effective Contributors*

The Sungazers have been getting into the Christmas spirit with crafts, cookery and science experiments. We have discovered that wraps are a firm favourite in the Sungazers so we made our own simple Christmas pizza wraps.

We had a go at making Snow by adding water to a ready-made mix. We had fun mixing, moulding and experimenting. We also enjoyed trying the Exploding Snowman experiment. It was very exciting but luckily it didn’t explode on any of us!

Happy Friday everyone!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Pine Room.

Well we have started getting ready for Christmas in the Pine Room.

During a game of Christmas Bingo were all successful learners, matching up the symbols on our board, practising our Makaton symbols for all the different Christmas things, such as Christmas Tree, Angel, Elf, Snowman and Bell.  Below are a couple of links if you want to practise at home.

Singing Hands Nativity Signs

Singing Hands Christmas Alphabet

Our Christmas Tree is made out of felt, so we can pull off the shapes and rearrange them – we can decorate the tree everyday if we want!!!                              It gives us another great opportunity to talk about the shapes and practise our Makaton signs.

Oh no Buddy the Elf is back!!!

He is ready for some MOVE today!!!

For Literacy we made ‘glowing’ Christmas Lights in our names, finding the letters, sounding them out and making lovely name plates.

Great work!!

Now lets get decorating!! Spreading the icing, sprinkling different coloured sprinkles, and making shapes.

This was great fun!!

Now for some Numeracy  – lets make some reindeers.

Triangles, diamonds…

…squares?

Excellent Work!!!

During Sensory Play we  mixed, rolled the plastic balls, exercised our hands and made soap shapes.

In Art we are making Christmas babbles, sticking different textures on to  paper plate – we will finish them off next week.

We open an advent parcel every day and read a different Christmas Book below are a few of our favourites.

Clump the Lump of Coal

The Dinosaur that popped Christmas

The Elfie Selfie

We love to dance and listen to music in the PINE Room, here a few of this week’s favourites.

Christmas Tree Sensory!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS *

The Daisies class enjoyed exploring today’s Christmas themed sensory activities. We had green filled ziplock bags that had a range of sequins and pom poms inside. The boys had to try squeezing the items around to make it look like a Christmas tree.

We also had a Christmas tree themed sensory tray with shaving foam and food colouring that we had a great time exploring.

FAOL – Enterprise – Christmas Snowman Display

*Confident Individuals     *Effective Contributors

We chose a snowman design then drew round our hands to make felt handprints. We cut out and glittered snowflakes, used paper doilies and cotton wool pads to form the body and used pipe cleaners for the nose and hat. We made a colourful pom pom for the hat. Didn’t it turn out well?
