This week the Transition boys wrote some pages for their diary. They were all Effective Contributors and wrote about what they had got up to at the weekend. Topics ranged from watching sports to attending the Willowbank Christmas Fair. All very interesting!

Reindeer Visit
We had a surprise visit from some reindeer in school this week. The Snowdrops were all confident individuals approaching the reindeer very quietly and slowly. The reindeers were actually bigger than the Snowdrop pupils and we heard them make unusual noises!
JMA – Building Bug Boxes
Some of the John Muir pupils visited Dean Park where the rangers helped them to create bug boxes. The boys enjoyed using the drill and the hammer! Once constructed, the bug boxes were filled with a range of natural materials sourced from the woodland floor.
Excellent work from these confident individuals and effective contributors.
FAOL -Reindeer Antlers!
Today the boys in the Sunflowers enjoyed creating some artwork using sensory materials. The children designed new antlers for Rudolph and then presented their work to each other. Lots of smiles today! Well done to these super successful learners.
FAOL – Enterprise
The Stars Class created Santa Glitter Shakers to sell at the Christmas Market. We sold them all! We also created a Christmas Tree wall display for the atrium.
St. Andrew’s Day Assembly
The Beech class enjoyed assembly this morning. We made thistles from our handprints, made shapes with porridge play dough, enjoyed some Scottish music and played themed games as well as tasted some typical Scottish foods. All pupils were confident individuals as they participated in each activity.
Snowdrops out and about
The Snowdrops were all confident individuals on recent social outings to our local community. Everyone enjoyed a visit to the café in Morrison’s supermarket, where we made personal choices of snack and drink, sat with our friends at the table and then played together in the play area. There was lots to explore in the play area. We also did some shopping the class and the Snowdrops were very successful learners using the self scanning check-out, great work!
Fun with Food – Enterprise
All the boys are really responding and enjoying their fun with food sessions. They are becoming confident individuals when asked to explore and taste food they do not normally enjoy.
We turned yoghurt into frozen lollipops and made some homemade ice cream which everyone tried! Very proud of all the boys in this group!
Provost’s Civic Recognition Award
We were delighted to receive a Civic Recognition Award from the Provost, Jim Todd following our recent success in the West FM Cream of Ayrshire Awards.
Also recognised were Friends of Willowbank for their ongoing support of the school, our pupils and their families.
St Andrew’s and Pet Therapy
The Stars class started celebrating St Andrew’s day by making St Andrew’s flags and roller painting tartan with toy cars! We had fun trying different ways to propel balls across the table but not by touching. We had a lovely time when Bella and Zeus visited us at Pet Therapy.
