Digital Learning Week!

To celebrate Digital Learning Week, I thought that I would set a series of tasks for you to complete and you could take photographic evidence (on a phone camera or ipad).

Over the last few days myself, Mrs Vernon, Mrs McInally and Miss Jones have all taken part. Here are our photographs below.

  1. Can you take a picture of yourself doing some form of exercise?

  1. Can you take a picture of yourself reading a book/magazine?

  1. Can you take a picture of a drawing/colouring/arts and craft activity you have completed?

  1. Can you take a picture of a meal/snack you helped make?

  1. Finally, after all of your hard work, reward yourself with a PJ day and take a picture of you in your PJs.

Remember all of these activities are optional and just ideas but it would be lovely to see some photographs of you taking part. Take care everyone 🙂

Digidabble week

Hello snowdrops , in school this week we would have been doing lots of fun activities using different types of technology. This isn’t so easy to do at home but we will as always try to ‘Be the best we can be’.

So I have tried to come up with a couple of activities you can do as home ,but you will need to ask a grown up to help as you will need a camera , camera phone or iPad .
Activity 1

When  you are out for your daily exercise try looking to see if you can find Some or all of the scavenger hunt list I have made . ( take photos 📷)

A blue car 🚙

A tree 🌳

A postbox 📮

A flower 🌷

A bin 🗑 ♻

A animal ( 🐶  , 🐈  , 🐴  , 🦢 🦋  etc )

A sign 🚸

something round ⭕

something square ◼

something in your garden

something that makes you happy 😃

Activity 2

look around your house and see if you can find items with the same initial letter of your name ..( take a photo 📷 ) if that’s too easy then try doing it for everyone in your house .

Mine would be the letter ‘M’ – money

Activity 3

Have some fun on the CBeebies app and watch some Peter rabbit or play some Peter rabbit games .

Good luck everyone and can’t wait to see any pictures you manage to take 👍🏻

Yoga with Moovlee the Monkey

Hello Snowdrops!

In class, we always enjoyed doing some yoga with Moovlee the Monkey.

Our favourite yoga video was always making shapes of the letters of the alphabet. Here are some photos of us doing yoga in class, do you remember?

This week, let’s do some alphabet yoga again with Moovlee!  You can do yoga indoors or outside, if it is sunny.  If you don’t feel like doing the yoga, you can just have fun watching the video.  All the ladies in the Snowdrops Room have been doing the yoga too.  Can you guess what letter of the alphabet we are showing?

Here is the link for the Moovlee Alphabet Yoga video –              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0RUN0e3ZGY

We would love to see any photos of you doing some yoga Snowdrops!  Stay safe, missing you all.

Weekly Home Learning (6)

Hi everyone,

Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week.  Given the extraordinary circumstances in which we find ourselves at the minute, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to address this topic.  Below is a list of suggested activities that I found, which focus on recognising and experiencing emotions, mindfulness and kindness.  There are lots of ideas, this is so that hopefully there is at least one suggestion that will be suitable or fun for you 🙂

Here is a touching story to introduce the topic of emotions.  It’s called Lucy’s Blue Day.’

If you have the Pixar film ‘Inside Out’ give it a watch or take a look at this Youtube clip. Some of the task suggestions are based around the colourful characters within this film.

  1. Make a healthy ‘Inside Out’ themed snack!  I suggest a fruit kebab.  Help to pick out some fruits that are the same colour as; joy, sadness, disgust, fear and anger.  With the help of an adult, dice the fruit and choose the order you would like them to appear on the plate or skewer.  Enjoy!  (Which feeling was the best flavour?)
  2. P.E/Drama Game.                                                                                                                        Watch this clip of film and do these actions every time you see…

Joy: Star jumps or wave you hands in the air.

Sadness: Curl up into a ball or hide your face

Anger: Stomp your feet and shout out!

Fear: Make a scary face or run away!

Disgust: Make a yucky face and wave your arms in a disgusted way

  1. Make sensory boxes – Fill up a box with things that make you feel happy, sad, angry, excited or worried.
  2. If you have or can obtain the following resources, make a sensory stress ball! Resources: Red, green, blue, yellow and purple balloons (you need 3 or more of each colour), scissors, Flour, plastic bottle, funnel, black sharpie/marker.   Click here to find out how to make your own stress ball.
  3. Practice mindfulness. This is something that we were slowly starting to incorporate to class routines as a way of encouraging us to slow things down and just ‘be’ when things get a bit too much.  Here is a video of a familiar furry friend teaching us how to belly breathe – a key relaxation technique.

Here is a link to a range of senses-based activities where the focus is to concentrate on a particular sound or feeling which almost tricks your body into relaxing!  In class, we really respond to lying on our backs on the floor and watching feathers fall slowly from a height, the classroom would become so peaceful.

  1. Beech Team challenge: Guess which emotion we are all representing in our #stayathome collage!  Who is sleepy?  Who is sadness?  Who is representing fear?  Who is feeling happy?
  2. Create a ‘Things to Look Forward To’ jar. Here is a link to a nice craft activity that focuses on positive thinking by encouraging us to think about all the things we are looking forward to doing when lockdown restrictions are safely lifted.  It helps us to remain goal orientated.    Link here.
  3. The theme of Mental Health Awareness Week this year is kindness. Take some time this week to think of someone you would like to cheer up or simply make smile. What could you do for them?  This could be something as simple as making a picture for them or phoning them for a chat.  You decide on your socially distanced random act of kindness!  If you need some ideas HERE is a link with some suggestions.
  4. Quiz Time with Murray! How much have you learned about our emotions?  Take this quiz to find out!   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxfJicfyCdg

Digidabble Time!

In school, this week would have been Diggidabble week.  I have highlighted all the activities which incorporate ICT above for your information.  Below is a short list of apps that focus on health and well being and are designed for children and young people.

Take care and stay safe 😊

Oak Weekly Challenges

We hope you have great week and enjoy the sunshine after a miserable weekend. Below we have included some activities that we hope you have fun trying out. There is no pressure to complete, however if you do we would love to see your photos.

Literacy –

This week your challenge is to take food orders for your family.  Use your writing and communication skills and also don’t forget your signs.

  1. Can your write down the food item they would like?
  2.  Can you ask them ‘What do you want to eat?’
  3.  Can you ask them ‘Would you like a drink?’

Numeracy –

Can you identify all the coins up to the value of £2. Get a cupcake tin and ask an adult to write the coin value.  From a selection of coin in a bowl, can you read the price tag, or listen to the price and identify the correct coin.

Cooking –

Let’s make chocolate brownies, a video has been made so click here to view the video and find out how to make them.

Art –

On your daily walk can you keep an eye out for stones.  A variety of sizes will be ideal as you are going to paint and use them as decorations for your garden.  If you have acrylic paint and clear lacquer this will be perfect to keep your design looking good and make them weatherproof.  Below is an idea but get creative and design your stones in any way you like.

The Oak class has a great artist, Miss Miller has created this lovely picture to represent all the classes that make up our school. Have an attempt at making your own Willow tree drawing. We look forward to seeing them and sharing with them with everyone.

Topic Work –

On your daily walk can you see how many signs you can identify. You could take a picture with an adult’s phone.  Then at home you can make a poster of all the signs you seen in your local community.  Can you tell everyone in your family what the sign says / means?

Music –

Get your family singing and signing along to this song, click here.  Feel free to send us any videos of you having a family sing a long. Click here for the link to Singing Hands video ‘Best Day of My Life’.

Life Skills –

These week your focus is to load / empty the dishwasher. Wash / dry the dishes in the sink. Do you know where everything goes? Where does the cutlery go? What about the plates?

Class Pet – Butterflies

I have fantastic news to share with you all, our five caterpillars have now grown into five beautiful butterflies! It is almost time to release them and let them fly free.  Mrs Murray is going to be very sad as she has loved looking after them!  Click here to see what they have been eating to help get strong and prepare them for moving on.

Have a great week Oak team! Continue with all your hard work, everyone is doing so well and we miss you greatly! Stay safe

A memory action game called Donkey

Play with a few people in your family: at least two.  The first person does an action, the second person copies and add another action, the next person does the two actions and adds a third, the next person does all three and adds a fourth. If you make a mistake in either the order or the actions or both (depending on level) you get a letter D Next time O until Donkey is formed. The first person to have Donkey is the looser.  Carry on till one person is left as the winner.

Easy version the first person to make a mistake is the Donkey and can start a new series of actions.

Apple Seed Planting

Mrs Moran has been working hard in her garden and has been planting lots of flowers and seeds.

Here is her easy way to plant apple seeds to create a tree.

Follow the steps to see if you can grow your own too!

Step 1- Collect your resources. You will need:

Soil                Apple seeds         A toilet roll tube        Water in a jug

Step 2- Fold the toilet roll tube so that one end is closed.

Step 3- Fill each tube with soil, then use a spoon to make a hole.

Step 4- Place 2 seeds in the hole, then use the spoon to push them down into the soil

Step 5- Cover the seeds with soil.

Step 6- Water the seeds.

Well Done! Remember your seeds needs sunlight and water to grow.

Place them in a sunny place, and water them each day.
