SQA Upcycling

With the weather being so nice the Transition class managed to get straight back into their upcycling projects. The class are Responsible Citizens cutting down on waste items by re-purposing them.  We are nearing the end of our Bottle Greenhouse build and making and collecting each item for the recycled pallet road project.  The boys put in excellent effort.

The Boys are Back in Town

The Transition class returned to school this week and got straight to work being Effective Contributors. The boys were contributing to a whole school display about LGBT+. They decorated butterflies with the colours of the rainbow and different materials to make them as interesting as they could be.

Rainbow Cabbage

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Planets class love science! We tried to create some rainbow cabbage. We placed cabbage leaves in jars with water and food colouring. Over the next few days, we watched as the colour started to rise and dye the cabbage leaves.

Focused Areas of Learning – Eco – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Planets class looked closely at the Willowbank school staff. We matched a range of staff photographs (using colour and black and white images).

We also went on a “hide and seek” hunt around the class to find a range of school staff, then we drew a line identifying the staff name to the correct photograph.

We also discussed where we would find certain staff members – would it be in the school office, a classroom, the dinner hall etc.

FAOL Science – What makes things go?

Successful Learners/Confident Individuals

The Snowdrops investigated the different ways toy cars can move. We looked at what happens to the toys when we push, pull, press buttons, wind up, program and use remote controls. We listened carefully to instructions then tried out all the different ways to make the toy cars move across a smooth surface towards our friends.

Science Week

This week was Science Week and we did lots of different experiments in class. We had lots of messy play and added water to cornflour to make gloop. It felt strange but we really enjoyed touching it with our hands. We did the pepper experiment.  We put soap on our hand and watch the pepper move away from our finger. We did rain cloud in a cup and watched as the blue food colouring went through the cloud and went into the cup. We also explored the bubble rocket in the playground stomping and making it go high in the sky and the bubbles float away.

FAOL Sciences – Making a Fairy Potion

Effective Contributors and Confident Individuals

As part of our Fairy tale theme for this term, the Sunflowers loved making a fairy potion.  The children were able to add a variety of sensory materials and observe colour change and bubbles forming.  We loved adding ingredients and mixing the magic potion. Everyone was able to choose an item to add to the potion pot.
