Stars Red Nose Day

*Responsible Citizens       *Confident Individuals

We enjoyed wearing superhero masks we’d made, had a red nose and spoon race and played a Blue Peter computer game. We particularly liked a red taste and try where we tasted tomatoes, apple, peppers, raspberries, jelly, strawberry custard, jam and yogurt. The raspberries were a little sharp and one person disliked red pepper but all in all it was a tasty success. We had a virtual meet up with other upper primary classes to see what red nose activities they’d been doing.

Science Week in the Stars

*Successful Learners

We have thoroughly enjoyed Science Week where we have been exploring our senses by doing a selection of experiments for taste, hearing, light, touch and smell. We learned that a blocked nose (or if you hold your nose) affects your sense of taste and we particularly enjoyed the sound game and ‘dancing’ rice which showed sound waves.

Stars New Dinosaur Theme

*Successful Learners        *Effective Contributors

We started our dinosaur theme by creating handprint dinosaur pictures for our wall display. At science, we did a floating dinosaur experiment where we saved the dinosaur by adding stones to the jug to raise the water level by displacement. We had fun lighting up glow dinosaurs with a torch and making dinosaur shadows. Mrs Gilchrist used a ‘green’ screen for pupils to act out being a dinosaur and superimposed this on to their chosen background. This was a very exciting use of technology. We used a switch to activate the microwave where we made yummy ‘smores’ by melting marshmallows.

FAOL – Sciences – Zip Lock Ice Cream

*Successful Learners      *Effective Contributors

We followed the recipe by putting milk, sugar and vanilla extract in a zipped bag. We put this in another zipped bag with ice and salt. After taking turns to give the bag a good shake the milk froze to make ice cream. It tasted rather good and most pupils asked for extra spoonfuls!
