We chose what colours we wanted to create personalised handprint dinosaurs. We thought they looked very like a stegosaurus.

We enjoyed wearing superhero masks we’d made, had a red nose and spoon race and played a Blue Peter computer game. We particularly liked a red taste and try where we tasted tomatoes, apple, peppers, raspberries, jelly, strawberry custard, jam and yogurt. The raspberries were a little sharp and one person disliked red pepper but all in all it was a tasty success. We had a virtual meet up with other upper primary classes to see what red nose activities they’d been doing.

We have thoroughly enjoyed Science Week where we have been exploring our senses by doing a selection of experiments for taste, hearing, light, touch and smell. We learned that a blocked nose (or if you hold your nose) affects your sense of taste and we particularly enjoyed the sound game and ‘dancing’ rice which showed sound waves.

We started our dinosaur theme by creating handprint dinosaur pictures for our wall display. At science, we did a floating dinosaur experiment where we saved the dinosaur by adding stones to the jug to raise the water level by displacement. We had fun lighting up glow dinosaurs with a torch and making dinosaur shadows. Mrs Gilchrist used a ‘green’ screen for pupils to act out being a dinosaur and superimposed this on to their chosen background. This was a very exciting use of technology. We used a switch to activate the microwave where we made yummy ‘smores’ by melting marshmallows.

For Careers Week we pretended to be Domino’s Pizza employees. We prepared the pizza’s to order. They were very tasty indeed. We also learnt about other jobs and signed them. Being a firefighter was a popular career choice.

We dressed up and enjoyed lots of activities on World Book Day. We took part in a scavenger hunt, read the funny story, ‘Aliens Love Underpants’, created playdoh aliens and iced alien flying saucer biscuits which we had for snack. At drama we roleplayed ‘Animal Boogie’ and enjoyed book sharing and a story box.

We found lots of goods with the Fairtrade logo and made a collage with rice, tea and lentils. We froze sliced bananas to see how they changed, played bingo and watched video’s and played songs about Fairtrade. Finally we made sundaes using Fairtrade bananas and ice cream and because it was Shrove Tuesday we added pancakes too!

We read the book, ‘I am Jazz’ and explored how we are all different but special. We compared our looks, interests and families. We created rainbow flags, had a colour hunt and danced to colour diversity, family and Pride songs. At science we did colour experiments. At HE we made tasty coloured traffic light sandwiches which we had for snack. On Purple Friday we created a purple octopus at art and enjoyed sensory handling. We had a very busy week of activities.

We created lovely Valentine’s cards to take home and made tasty Jam Heart biscuits, They tasted really yummy! We also made Ice Ornaments for the garden. We collected buds, leaves and flowers then froze them in water, not forgetting to dip string into the water before freezing. We hung them in the garden where they sparkled in the sunshine before melting.

We followed the recipe by putting milk, sugar and vanilla extract in a zipped bag. We put this in another zipped bag with ice and salt. After taking turns to give the bag a good shake the milk froze to make ice cream. It tasted rather good and most pupils asked for extra spoonfuls!
