FIREWORKS

This week we have been exploring fireworks and bonfires. We ripped tissue paper to make the flames on the fire and added strips of brown for the wood. We also make firework pictures with cotton buds we made lines with paint and then sprinkles glitter on top to make them sparkle. We also added icing to bread-sticks and dipped them into star sprinkles to make little sparkles. They all enjoyed tasting them too.

Bonfire week!

Hello everyone!

It has been a very busy week in the stars class! We tided the planter and made some garden spinners, which we then hung in the garden. The pupils really liked hanging up the garden spinners they made. We did learned about some road safety and some hand gestures to remember how to cross the road safely. We did some fireworks in a jar, using food colouring, water and oil. The pupils learned about hot and cold items/food in science and did really well with this.

We enjoyed making some chocolate sparklers in class. We used bread sticks, sprinkles and chocolate and they tasted delicious! The pupils enjoyed picking pictures for the global goal poster and even added some glitter to it. The class then cut the pictures out and glued them onto A3 paper to make it really stand out.

Later on in the week, the pupils made a firework poster using crayons, black paint and whit card. We used a plastic knife to scrap away some black paint to make the crayon colours come through and they were very colourful!

Hope you have a safe and enjoyable bonfire night and a great weekend! See you all on Monday!

50 things outdoors – bubbles

The Bluebells love being outdoor. We enjoy going to the garden on a walk. At the start of the school year we explored bubbles in the garden which was lots of fun. We revisited it this week using our bubble rocket launcher in the garden. The children thoroughly enjoyed seeing the rocket fly into the air and the bubbles that it produced. Some even tried to stomp hard to make the rocket soar into the sky. They enjoyed running and catching the bubbles and bursting them with their hands.

IDL Evidence – Expressive Arts

Confident Individuals/Successful Learners

This afternoon, the Asteroids paid lots of attention to paintings by Giuseppe Arcimboldo. His portraits of people are painted using different fruit and vegetables. They enjoyed finding and naming the different foods used in his paintings. We tried our own fruit and veg portraits on the Promethean board and then we used pictures of ourselves and chose which food we wanted to use for our own facial features.

Don’t they look great?

Music: Producing a Sound – Confident Individuals

We combined music and bonfire night this week by creating a small performance using gym balls, beaters and dance moves.  We beat the gym balls using beaters in time to the music of Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’.  We followed the dance steps on the board to go along with the beat and the song.

IDL: Rocket Launch Experiment

We’ve been learning all about Guy Fawkes, bonfire night and firework safety this week.  One of our activities included taking part in a shooting rocket  experiment.  We were successful learners as  we designed and built our own rocket ships using recycled bottles and paper straws.  We then used the air inside the bottle to propel our rockets forward by squeezing the bottle.   We experimented by using different straw lengths and concluded that the longer the straw, the further our rockets would travel.

Eating the Alphabet – Exploring New Foods HWB 0-30a

Successful Learners and Effective Contributors

For each letter of the alphabet, the Sunflower’s class have been given the chance to touch and taste new healthy foods.  Each child was able to practice chopping, grating, cutting and juicing of fruits.  Our tasks included making orange juice, extracting seeds from pomegranates and making strawberry men.  We all loved using a variety of fruit and vegetables to make a rainbow wrap and everyone participated by either tasting or smelling the new foods.
