Scottish Opera “Warriors”

Primary p5-7 from Portpatrick , joined up with pupils from their partnership school of Leswalt, and pupils from Sheuchan to rehearse and perform “Warriors!” .  This was made possible with support from Scottish Opera.

Children had been learning the songs in school all of this term,  and they all came together to perform at Sheuchan Primary.  The story was based in ancient China, with Leswalt and Portpatrick pupils taking on the role of peasants.  It was a brilliant performance to parents and relatives, with expressive acting and wonderful singing from all.  Have a look at the photographs to see the energy and enthusiasm for yourselves.

P1-4 Farming Fun!

P1-4 have been learning lots about farming in their local area and how farmers use different types of land for different farming purposes.

The class met up with P1-4 from Leswalt Primary School as they have also been learning about farming and land use.  Both classes were taken a tour of the farm including the dairy parlour, the newly born calves shed, the ‘maternity’ shed and also the ‘kitchen’ where all the food is kept and prepared for the cows.  Lots of fun was had by all and many thanks go to Fergus, Gary and Fiona for making the trip so educational and fun!

Rotary Quiz team travel to Glasgow

Well done to the Stranraer cluster Rotary Quiz winning team of Magnus, Lara, Ruth and Connor who travelled to Glasgow yesterday to compete in the West of Scotland Rotary quiz area finals.

The children were accompanied by a member of Stranraer Rotary club, and some of their parents.  It has been reported that all the children (and adults) found the questions they were asked were very challenging!   Sadly, they were not placed, but they can all  be proud of their achievements in reaching the final,  and happy in the memories that the experience provided them all with.

Well done little  team Portpatrick!

Farm to Fork Tesco Visit

As part of their ‘Food and Farming’ Topic in Social Studies and Health and Wellbeing, P1-4 visited Tesco for their ‘Farm to Fork’ workshop.  Pupils were taken a tour around Tesco to explore where food comes from and even got to taste some of the lovely items on offer!  The children took part in an activity to use food labels and packaging to discover where food came from.  They were amazed at the distance some fruit and vegetables travel from around the world, including from Cameroon, Columbia, France and Spain!

A selection of local cheese was offered to the children including a smoked applewood (which wasn’t very popular among the group!) and the daredevils tried a chilli and lime cheese, which was more popular than expected!

Pupils then explored downstairs in Tesco, which they were amazed at as they didn’t know Tesco had a ‘downstairs!’.  They enjoyed testing out how cold the deep freezers were and learned about how important it is to keep temperatures at the correct level.

It was a great educational trip and was enjoyed by all!

Glasgow Science centre trip

The whole school recently enjoyed a day trip to Glasgow Science centre.  While at the science centre,  the children took part in various experiments as well as visiting the planetarium, taking part in a forces workshop, learning more about magnets and even launching rockets and standing on people on a bed of nails!

Have a look at our photographs which demonstrate some of the learning which took place!
