Little explorers settling in to nursery

Some of the children have had great fun exploring different construction materials building from and to different heights.

 

Dannika extended this by hiding objects inside her tower.

They have been developing their measuring skills to create their own paint and playdough.

 

The children pressed different objects into the playdough to see what shapes and patterns they can make.

  

In the garden they have been exploring water and creating puddles.

Joshua enjoyed experimenting with different ramps seeing how fast the cars travelled down the ramps.

 

Some children used the cars to print with paint.

They have also enjoyed exploring mark making using different markers.

  

Some children have been practising their cutting skills with playdough.

 

The children have been developing fine motor skills picking up pasta with tongs and threading it on string.

Great adventurers settling back into nursery

Deryn enjoyed exploring the construction blocks making a house for his paw patrol friends. He added a slide for them to go down.

Leila-Rose has been practising writing whilst making a work of art.

Some children have been using the tape measure to measure the lengths of different objects in the garden and the heights of different people.

The children have shown a real interest in looking for minibeasts in the garden including worms, slugs and lady birds. We had a look at some fact books to find out about different parts of the slug and what they like to eat. We also found out that that they curl up when they sense danger.

Harrison, Maya and Jacob worked together to build a house.

Lily’s baby wasn’t well so she talked to Gill about what she could do to help her feel better.

“Her not feel well.” (Lily)  “Her maybe have a fever.” (Lily) She decided baby needed to go to the doctors.

In the garden they have enjoyed using construction blocks and crates to create their own obstacle course experimenting with different ramps and challenging themselves to climb and jump from different heights.

In the garden, some children explored different materials they could use to press into the playdough making different imprints and patterns.

We have been practising our routine for when we come back in from the garden. We hang up our coats, take off our wellies, put our wellies together and return them to the basket. We keep our shoes in the basket when we are not wearing them so we do not lose them.

We have been looking at the trees in the garden seeing how much the have grown over summer. Some children enjoyed using paint to create pictures of the trees looking at a photograph of one of the large trees in the garden.

Malcolm decided the cart full of blocks was like a castle climbing onto it. “King of the castle” (Malcolm said)

We have also been role-playing a garage filling up the bikes with petrol and pumping up the tyres with air when they got a hole in them. They didn’t forget to pay their money each time their bikes and scooters got fixed.

Lewis was practising his click and drag skills on the computer and felt a sense of achievement when he was able to do this on his own to complete his game.

Harrison set up an ice cream shop offering lots of flavours of ice creams for his friends to buy.

The great adventurers memories

In ABC and beyond the children finished reading Shark in the Park by Nick Sharratt. They helped to retell the story by joining in with the rhyming words.

 

They have been identifying other rhyming words by matching objects which sound the same and matching pictures.

 

The great adventurers have had opportunities to develop fine motor skills through mark making. They have been mark making in rice, flour, foam and salt using sticks and brushes.

 

In the garden some children have been developing their gross motor skills doing hops and jumps inside the 10 frames.

Jack was using his problem solving skills working out what he needed and how to fit pieces together to make his own car. He then decided to make it into a motorbike.

 

Riley worked so hard building a very tall tower. He showed persistence and did not give up even when it fell over. He was so proud of his tower when he completed it.

 .

Oscar was role-playing a Dr checking Katie’s breathing to make sure she was ok.

 

Some children enjoyed exploring puddles in the garden. They had to work together to help one another when some children got stuck in a big puddle.

 

Macy and Niyah were helping to look after the garden by watering the plants.

 

The pre-school children have had transition visits to the school. They enjoyed playing with the primary ones and twos and seeing what the classrooms were like.

 

In Big Noise, some of the children have been practising moving the Lycra trying to keep to the best of the music.

 

Layla and Radwan have enjoyed playing together creating pieces of art work.

 

Lots of children were helping in the garden picking out radishes.

 

A number of children have enjoyed searching for gardens in the worms. We have talked about what worms need and how to look after them.

 

Arlo was challenging himself in the sensory room trying to get the ball into different holes. He challenged himself to get the ball in a higher up hole in the net.

Jack used different logs to create his own bridge to go over the puddle so he could cross it.

 

Jaxon used some bamboo sticks to make himself into an ant.

Dahlia enjoyed role playing a teacher getting her friends together to do some singing.

Mia has been developing her fine motor skills through threading reels onto string. She then practised her counting skills counting from the bottom to the top to see how many reels she had on her string counting as she went.

Some of the children participated in a puppet group this term. They started off by choosing the puppet the liked the most. they gave it a name and developed a character for their puppet. they then went on to design and build a home for their puppet. The puppets went on an adventure and the children each identified what happened to their puppet whilst on this adventure.

In snack the children enjoyed making their own healthy wraps.

 

Lots of children have enjoyed exploring paint using brushes and paint pens.

 

The boys and girls have been busy with lots of learning. They have stuck photos of what they have been learning in the floor book and enjoyed looking back at it to remember what they have been learning.

Lots of children enjoyed making their own playdough and investigating what they can do with it.

 

Some of the boys and girls enjoy playing peek a boo hiding in the tee pee.

The little explorers enjoyed looking at their learning journals seeing photos of themselves and remembering some of the experiences they had.

Riley enjoyed exploring a story trying hard to turn the pages by herself.

Tyler was busy in the home corner making food for Ayva.

A few of the children enjoyed exploring small world figures making the figures come to life.

In Big Noise the boys and girls have been listening to the violin. This week they helped Gordon to play it.

The children had lots of fun on the trip to the Deer Centre.

The children enjoy regular visits to the sensory room exploring the lights and mirrors.

 

Some of the boys and girls have had transition visits to the 3-5s room this term. They enjoyed playing in the garden exploring with water and different pipes. They also enjoyed mark making and exploring the tools at the workbench.

 

The children enjoy having snack outside when the weather is nice.

The great adventurers week 28 and 29

Last week the ABC and beyond word was shy meaning easily frightened. The children had to decide whether a situation would make them feel shy or not shy.

Last week the children enjoyed some parachute games in the garden in the sunshine. they were practising their listening and team work skills.

Some of the children were working with the P6 buddies doing different activities to help them to develop their fine motor skills.

The blue group had a trip to the library this week. They enjoyed choosing new stories to take back to the library and having the opportunity to dress up.

In the garden the children enjoyed developing their gross motor skills completing an obstacle course. They were using balance and trying to jump off the wooden box in different ways. The adults and P6 buddies joined in too.

Kayla was doing forward rolls on the mat.

Harrison enjoyed participating in another obstacle course showing good balance.

The children have shown a keen interest in volcanoes. They did an experiment in the garden using Mentos and fizzy juice to create their own mini explosions. They had great fun doing it as a team and then did their own experiments.

Arlo demonstrated tiling using shapes. He made a robot.

In the playdough area we have been practising our sharing skills.

In art some children have enjoyed making their own creations using clay.

Jorgie was busy at the work bench planning what she was going to do and making sure she kept herself safe.

Kacper enjoyed exploring sound finding out what happened when he tapped different tins. He tapped them in different orders to see what sounds they would make together.

Jacob has shown a keen interest in learning to write his name copying letters.

Dalia has been practising writing numbers.

Harleigh and Alisha made great use of loose parts and natural resources they found in the garden to create their own campfire and BBQ.

Today we celebrated Ivy turning 4! Happy birthday Ivy from all your friends at nursery.

 

The little explorers week 28 and 29

In Chattertots last week the children enjoyed participating in messy play.

 

This week in Chattertots the children worked together to make their own smoothies. The Chattertots tips for this week are to use gestures or demonstrate and repeat what your child says in adult form.

 

In the garden they enjoyed exploring with water, bubbles and paint.

   

Some of the children have been helping to look after the garden by watering the plants.

The children were developing their fine motor skills through climbing over different obstacles.

Oliver used the ramp to create a sea-saw.

Orlah was playing peek-a-boo from behind the tent.

The children enjoyed snack in the garden on a sunny day.

Fun was had on a rainy day in the garden jumping in muddy puddles.

 

Malcolm enjoyed exploring the animals matching them to the  animals on the display poster.

The great adventurers week 27

This week our ABC and beyond word was height meaning distance from top to bottom. The children guessed then measure the height of different toys. Then they ordered the toys from tallest to smallest.

The used metre sticks to measure bigger objects around the nursery.

In mini ABC the word this week was massive meaning really big. The children sorted the animals into massive and not massive.

Harper set up a shop selling scarves and hats.

Jack set up a Mcdonalds to take drive through orders.

Some children developed their fine motor skills playing with peg boards and creating their own patterns.

A group of children helped to pick some herbs to put inside the nursery.

A group of children enjoyed playing with the trucks and ramps in the garden.

The little explorers week 27

At chatter tots this week the children enjoyed exploring clay. The chattertots tips for this week are to get down to your child’s level and follow your child’s lead.

Some children have been developing their fine motor skills through threading.

Somaya, Dannika and Sophie have been practising their cutting skills.

Rowyn was exploring loose parts.

Maya was using the tool box and trying to stick tools into the playdough seeing if she could get it to stand up.

In the garden they have been developing gross motor skills jumping off of crates onto a crash mat.

The great adventurers week 26

The  ABC and beyond sparkle word this week was prefer meaning to like better. The children did an activity in their groups where they had to vote on what they preferred out of two options.

The pre-school children enjoyed having their first visit from the primary 6 buddies who will be helping to look after them when they are in primary 1. They had lots of fun playing with them.

This week Dot had 2 questions for the pre-school children.

We talked about who we could speak to if we were finding our work at school hard or if we didn’t know the answer to something. We talked about people at home, our family, the teacher and our friends as people who can help us.

In the garden they enjoyed building towers with giant Lego blocks. they worked together to see how high they could make their towers.

The children enjoyed having the gate open and being able to venture between the two gardens. Some of the boys enjoyed playing on the climbing frame developing their gross motor skills.

Some children enjoyed writing and others drew pictures.

Others enjoyed exploring water in the garden.

The little explorers week 26

The little explorers went on a bug hunt this week. They worked together using their magnifying glasses to see what they could find in the garden.

They enjoyed having some new friends to play with in the nursery. Somaya, Riley and Tyler.

They enjoyed playing out in the sunshine exploring with water.

The children enjoyed opening the gate and being able to venture between the two gardens. They had fun playing with the great adventurers whilst developing their gross motor skills.

Rowyn enjoyed doing some mark making.

Some children enjoyed threading pasta onto pipe cleaners developing their fine motor skills.

Riley enjoyed doing some digging.

Dannika was finding mini beasts hidden in the sand.
