We blogged about sending our letters to Santa a couple of weeks ago.  Here is a slideshow of the Superstars posting them.  Let me know when you get a reply by posting a comment, P3S.  Hope you are enjoying the first full day of your holiday.   Mrs Stewart

Spelling hats!

This week in spelling we are learning words where “ea” make an “e” sound as in head and weather.  We made these hats with some of our spelling words written on the feathers.  I think we look pretty cool and we are learning to spell our words at the same time.

A busy afternoon.

This afternoon Mr Tollerton visited our class. Mr Tollerton was the Headteacher at Warddykes before Miss Deans. He now works with the education department at Arbroath Abbey.

He reminded us that not everyone could read and write in the past. We had already learned that Monks were amongst those who did learn to read and write – and that they spent a lot of time practising – just like we do at school!

He showed us how to make a seal like the ones that were used to fasten letters long ago. They would be made of wax and embossed with a picture. We made ours from plasticene! We had a really enjoyable afternoon and Stanley was interested in learning something more about life in the past in Arbroath.

Mr Tollerton shows us how to make the picture to emboss our seal.

Flat Stanley has his own blog!

Flat Stanley is staying with Elidh this weekend but he telephoned me last night (I think he sneaked to the telephone while she was asleep) to tell me he thought he should have his own blog!  He would like to put all his pictures and adventures in his own pages.  I thought this was a really good idea so here is the link for Stanley’s blog:

We will move Stanley’s adventures over to his blog and keep our blog free for the other things that we will be doing in class.

Flat Stanley Visits Arbroath Abbey

Flat Stanley is visiting our class.  He arrived in an envelope last week,  together with a copy of his book explaining how he became flat.  The book was written by an author called Jeff Brown.  Flat Stanley had written us a letter explaining that he wants to find out more about where we live.  We are all taking him home so that he can get to know us better.

On Friday, 27th August we took Flat Stanley to Arbroath Abbey. Arbroath Abbey is an important landmark in Arbroath and very famous in Scottish History because of its association with the Scottish Declaration of Independence.  You can find out more at these websites:

We dressed up as Monks and Brother Andrew paid us a visit from the past and told us what life was like in the Abbey more than 800 years ago.

You can see more photos of our visit by clicking on the link to the right.
