Monthly Archive for November, 2010

Storybird is a fantastic website which enables you to write books using the illustrations of established artists.  You can even get the books printed properly and then buy them if you want to!

We have started to work in groups to create our Storybirds.  As we have been learning about adjectives, we had to try to use as many as we could in our book. Click on the links to have a look.

Our Book of Adjective Creatures By Roxie, Archie, Heather and Taylor on Storybird

We will be putting more Storybirds on the blog as we write them.

The website allows collaborative storytelling which means one child can complete a page and then pass it on to the next to complete another page. We will be exploring this later in the year.

Sensational Superstars

Sensations Science Centre liked the video of our visit so much that they have put a link to it from their website!

They are hoping that other schools will visit after seeing the fun learning experience that we had learning to be super scientists.

Going spotty!

Who's this?

A very strange outbreak of spottiness occurred at Warddykes Primary School today. Someone said it was something to do with Children in Need but I’m not so sure…

Well done super spellers!

Anti Bullying Week (2)

Today we used our drama time to practise some techniques that could be used to deal with bullies.  We learned about the “broken record” and “fogging” methods. In groups of three we used role play to try these out.  We thought the techniques worked really well in our role play scenarios.

For more information go to:

Role playing in groups.

During the week we had also discussed the importance of having good friends and what makes a good friend, especially after having watched the video “Whose side are you on?” on CBBC earlier in the week.

We all made friends for Flat Stanley so he had someone to look after him in the classroom when we are not there. We also wrote speech bubbles about ways in which we could be a good friend.

A Friend for Stanley

Anti Bullying Week

This week is national anti bullying week. The whole school is taking part in a variety of activities to do with this.

Today we discussed the different forms that bullying can take. We also looked at some scenarios where Flat Stanley might feel he was being bullied and gave him some advice to cope with this. We thought it was really important that any child being bullied should discuss it with an adult they trust.

We also watched this video from CBBC newsround.

Maths Problem Solving

We have been learning to use the problem solving strategy “Find all Combinations.” Today we had to try to find different combinations of a selection of foods, with varying prices, which would add up to 20p.

We are learning that reading the problem and working out the important information is very important.

Today Flat Stanley was able to take part in the new fitness craze everyone has been talking about – Zumba! The whole school had taster sessions throughout the day.

Showing Stanley some of the moves!
