Professor Hawking was replying to a letter Caleb wrote at the end of last session to Professor Hawking as part of a P6 letter writing project.

P7’s at Kirn explore My World of Work

Kirn P6 go wild at Ardentinny

Kirn PS Ardentinny 1 Sept 15Back to school was even more exciting for Kirn Primary’s P6 pupils this year as they set off for four days of challenges at Ardentinny Outdoor Education Centre.

Children were treated to a programme of gorge walking, which was very challenging and involved walking up waterfalls, canoeing, and lots of team challenges. Kirn P3 visit Western Ferries

Kirn PS wester ferries 1As part of their Seaside topic, P3 visited Western Ferries to learn about how these big boats work, and visited the beach.

Lots of us have been on Western Ferries to go ‘across the water’, but we don’t normally see the huge engines and all the machinery in the engine room at the bottom of the boat, or the control room where the captain sits right up at the top! S3 visit Kirn P7 before Transition to Dunoon Grammar

Kirn PS Transition 1Girls from S3 at Dunoon Grammar School visited our classroom in Kirn today to tell us more about life in Dunoon Grammar School and they were great!

After a brain gym game to get us actively thinking, they divided us into groups and worked with us, brainstorming our worries and encouraging us to remember the positives about ‘moving up to The Grammar’.

News Reporters Appointed at Kirn Primary

Kirn News ReportersCongratulations to Oscar, Bronte and Nathan on their success in being appointed as News Reporters in Kirn Primary.

All three P6 children (as well as many other applicants from P6) completed their application forms, then attended an interview before receiving a letter to say they had been successful. All three were very happy to accept!

Kirn’s P6 have “the BEST time EVER” at Ardentinny

Kirn Ardentiny 1Kirn Primary’s P6 children had an amazing time at Ardentinny Outdoor Centre and in just under four days managed to rock-hop, safari on the seashore, abseil, waterfall climb, forest walk, orienteer, eat great food, disco and have the Best Time EVER! Everyone had a fantastic time and lots of happy memories to bring home.

Dunoon Grammar School Music visit Kirn Early Learning and Childcare Centre

DGS visit Kirn PS  Early YearsOn Wednesday 29th April Karen McChesney and pupils from Dunoon Grammar School visited the Early Learning and Childcare Centre at Kirn to share some musical experiences. the children had fun with vocal warm-ups, clapping, dancing and singing and then enjoyed listening to Karen’s guitar playing.

Kirn’s P7 Great Spaghetti Marshmallow Challenge!

KIRN PS P7 Challenge 1It was Open Day in P7 and we invited parents, grandparents and carers to come in and join us with the Spaghetti Marshmallow Challenge!
Each team was made up with P7 children, one or two parents or helpers, 100 sticks of raw spaghetti, 20 marshmallows and just 30 minutes. The challenge was to build the highest tower using just these materials, plus lots of communication skills, teamwork, determination, creativity, problem solving and speed!

Kirn’s P6/5 are Leaders of Learning at the Science Centre

Kirn Leadership and Learning 1Primary 6/5 visited the Science Centre today – but not just as a fun and educational day trip. We were there as Leaders of Learning as part of our Children in Scotland project with other schools and educational groups and the Minister for Learning, Science and Scotland’s Languages Alasdair Allan (Primary 6/5 were the only Primary school children there!)

Stars are Shining at Kirn!

Shine Star Shine!! That was the message for our plucky little star who was trying so hard to shine to light the way to Bethlehem. The Assembly Hall at Kirn Primary was packed with parents and family members who had come along to see all the children from Primary 1, 2 and 3 perform this heartwarming version of the Nativity story.

A Very Merry Kirn Christmas

There was Christmas spirit aplenty at Kirn Primary School on Friday as the whole school and particularly Primary 6 pupils hosted the Annual Kirn Christmas Community Lunch.

Specially invited guests from the Kirn community were treated not only to the wonderful lunch prepared by Lynn Stirling and the incredible staff in the Kirn kitchen but to an even more wonderful Christmas Concert.

Kirn Primary Presents Cheque to EnviroKirn

Pupils at Kirn Primary presented Mrs. Marion Morrison of EnviroKirn with a cheque for £60. This money was raised by pupils at Kirn on their recent “Green Day”.

Kirn’s Eco Committee is made up of pupils from P2 to P7, who meet regularly to think of ways to raise awareness of environmental and community projects which are ongoing in and around Kirn.

The Assembly Hall was the place to be to take part in Pudsey Day activities and raise money for Children in Need.

Kirn School was bursting with Super Heroes! Some you may have heard of like Wonder Woman, some you may not have, but Super Swimmer, Brainy Girl and Rugby Boy are all definitely Super.
