As part of their Seaside topic, P3 visited Western Ferries to learn about how these big boats work, and visited the beach.
Lots of us have been on Western Ferries to go ‘across the water’, but we don’t normally see the huge engines and all the machinery in the engine room at the bottom of the boat, or the control room where the captain sits right up at the top! We also saw how someone would be rescued if they fell overboard.
“We got to go up to where the Captain drives and controls the boat. We got to have three turns of fresh air outside and we all played one game of tag. Some of us got a little splattered with water when we went to the other end of the boat.”
Luckily it was a lovely sunny day and we loved being at the seaside after learning so much about it at school. We had a great time looking at the rocks, shells, plants and sea creatures.
“We had a scavenger hunt which is when you get a list of things you need to collect and when you have got them all you tick them all off. Nobody found them all! Everybody found at least their favourite stone on the beach.”
Thanks to Elise for her brilliant comments and thanks to Western Ferries for a wonderful day out.
