To celebrate the end of their topic, both Primary 3 classes in Rockfield Primary enjoyed an Ancient Egyptian morning which was packed full of activities. They tasted healthy Egyptian food, designed an Egyptian tunic, made a scarab beetle biscuit, had their faces painted and decorated Egyptian jewellery.
In the afternoon, the children had a book launch for their Egyptian adventure stories. Parents and carers came along to join in the fun and were extremely impressed with the children’s hard work.

Kidz Fit at DPS!!
Today Dunoon Primary was treated to a day with Kidz Fit! The gym hall was filled with smiling faces and the skilful instructor Carl put the pupils through their paces! Kidz Fit sessions educate children about how to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle, how the human body works, as well as the importance of giving one hundred percent and being the best we can be! The ultimate goal is to improve Every Child’s self esteem, physical and mental well-being, confidence, and motivation, all combining For A Better Future.
Egypt Topic Celebration in Rhu P4!
Rhu P4 recently celebrated the end of their Ancient Egypt topic with an open afternoon. Parents were invited and children dressed up in a variety of fantastic costumes. Mummies, pharaohs, farmers, craftsmen and even Egyptian gods could be seen! The children treated the crowd to their performance of the song ‘Amazing Egyptians’ before giving them a tour around the class to view the displayed work. The class also enjoyed a trip to the Ancient Egypt exhibition at Kelvingrove Art Galleries to enhance the topic and had fun acting out ‘Life After Death’ drama. Well done P4!
Garelochhead Primary School Art Project
P6/5 have enjoyed visits from two artists to help with their topic work. As part of their Beyond the Panda topic, a member of the local Art Club gave up her time to help the children to make Chinese bowls out of papier mache, clay pandas, and a wall hanging with cherry blossom and Chinese calligraphy.
Numeracy Across the Curriculum @ Kilmartin
T
o help the children understand the importance of numeracy skills in the world outside of the classroom and to give the children an exciting context for their learning, all of the children at Kilmartin P.S. visited Portavadie Marina for lunch. The trip was wonderful, the food and service from the Portavadie staff was second to none but…the children had to do a considerable amount of work prior to the trip to earn this fabulous reward! They studied ferry timetables, investigated ticket prices, learned the difference between a single journey, a return ticket and a 6 ticket deal.
PORT ELLEN HOLDS FINANCE WEEK FAIR
This week was finance week at Port Ellen and all the classes have been involved in learning about money, finishing in a finance fair on Friday Morning. Primary 1&2 have been learning about banks and spreadsheets, and have even started saving their money up for the summer holidays. They ran a bank at the exhibition and showed they could count change, and had even made their own piggy banks. Primary 2&3 had made commonwealth animal banks, which included a wonderful anteater and Kiwi bank.
Bowmore Primary 2/3’s Learning Festival
On Friday 25th April, a very excited P2/3 hosted a Learning Festival for their families. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to share their learning about Homecoming Scotland. They proudly presented their personal projects, teaching their visitors about the island’s many distilleries, Scottish wildlife, dancing, musical instruments and food. There was even an opportunity to taste some shortbread which a couple of girls had baked! It was a very successful afternoon which our parents very much enjoyed.

Rhu Primary School, Primary 3 ? Roman Day
Primary 3 in Rhu Primary School have been learning all about the Romans this term. They looked at the Roman Empire, how Rome was founded, what their lives were like and how they have influenced our lives today. As a celebration of their learning the children took part in a Roman Day. They dressed up as Romans, joined in with different games and activities, such as playing merels, making a bulla, making a scroll, designing a laurel leaf crown and even ate like Romans.
Zoolab visit Barcaldine PS
Barcaldine Primary School recently had a visit from an ‘Eco Investigator from Zoolab’.
Anthony from Zoolab descended upon us with a huge big box in tow to discuss with us our environment and what creatures and animals require from their environment to survive. The children got to touch, feel and handle the various animals but there were a few we didn’t dare touch!! Dunoon Grammar School – Loch Fyne Oysters Visit
Two S3 Hospitality classes visited Loch Fyne Oysters and saw where the oysters and mussels were produced and packaged ready for sale locally and around the world. The classes then visited the Restaurant and Oyster Bar where they enjoyed a presentation and an opportunity to try different varieties of smoked salmon, bradan rost and oysters.

Kilmartin Tie-Dye Enterprise Project
The children at Kilmartin P.S. showed off their new tie-dyed t-shirts at the recent Mid Argyll Music Festival. Who wants to perform in boring navy school sweatshirts when you can brighten everyone’s day with a touch of the Caribbean? As part of the Cloth Uncut project, the children have screen printed patterns after looking at a variety of fabrics from African countries, woven their own tartan with lace and ribbon to represent Cyprus and finally learned how to tie-dye after looking at Caribbean fabrics.
Barcaldine Tree Planting
Barcaldine Primary school children were invited along to Sutherland’s Grove on Tuesday afternoon to help plant Coastal Red Woods trees.
The weather was a bit wet to start but it soon dried up and the children along with Forestry Commission Scotland Craftsmen’s Peter MacArthur and Rory Maclean spent a couple of hours planting trees.
Southend goes back in time
Pupils in the P5-7 class have been studying the Highland Clearances and Scottish Emigration through the novel, The Desperate Journey by Kathleen Fiddler. This inter-disciplinary project has brought together drama, art, music and literacy as well as learning about the lives of the Highland people 150 – 200 years ago. Model crofts were made of clay then thatched using dried grass and rashes from the fields.
The Luss Powan Blog
The children of Luss Primary School in class P5-7 have gone blogging mad!
They decided that this year they would write a blog, in order to detail the development of their very special powan fish eggs. This means that the local and wider community can follow the various steps involved in caring for this endangered ice age fish. The children are delighted, as their blog has had views from as far afield as the USA and Australia.
Primary 3 Ancient Greek Day!
Primary 3 in Park Primary School have been learning all about the Ancient Greeks this term! They found out where and when they lived, what their lives were like and how they have influenced our lives today. As a final outcome the children planned and hosted an Ancient Greek Day on Tuesday 25th March to share their learning with their families. There was an excellent attendance on the day and everyone had a great time!!
CGS Commonwealth lesson
Three pupils from Campbeltown Grammar School visited Dalintober Primary Five to teach them about the Commonwealth country they will be representing at a mini Commonwealth games in June. The class heard interesting facts about New Zealand and a quiz at the end showed that they had been taught well by their new, enthusiastic teachers.
Together Again!
On Wednesday 5th of March Keills and Small Isles Primary travelled down to Port Charlotte School to do some team building challenges.
First we were put into teams and it was good because the groups had children from different schools. This meant we could make new friends. The first challenge we did was a dragon game. I liked it because you had to communicate with lots of different children. We had to try and catch the other teams’ dragon tails. It was great fun.
Small Isles Primary nominated for Community Archives Award
In Spring 2012, Small Isles children became involved in the Crofting Connections Project. During the summer term they invited the community to be involved too by hosting four Crofting Community Cafes in school. Each cafe had a crofting theme (Crofting the land, Life as a child, Crofting Culture and Crofting at Home) and a panel of ‘experts’ from the community were invited to come and share their memories and experiences of the theme by answering questions from the children, leading discussions and having drinks and home-cooked treats.

Vikingar Fun for P5
What a magnificent fun day out Dunoon Primary P5 class had at Vikingar on Friday 7th March. The pupils were treated to a visit to a real life Viking Home and as they entered ‘strange aromas’ were evident of the Viking age. The informative guide quickly began to introduce us to a world of information on our topic, with lots of clever pupils answering questions testing their knowledge of the Vikings.
Hola! World Book Day with an International flavour at Ardchattan!
Ardchattan Primary School have celebrated World Book Day and International School Meals day with fun, food and fantastic fundraising for Mary’s Meals!
It all began six weeks ago at our Community Burns Supper when we announced the start of our Change for Mary’s Meals campaign. We have four of the blue Mary’s Meals mugs, one for each child in our school. Our target was to fill the mugs with enough small change to feed four children in Malawi for a year, a total of about £40.
