Two P7 pupils from St. Joseph’s took part in the West Dunbartonshire Maths Challenge on the Wednesday of Maths Week Scotland. Ten teams of eight children went head to head to solve Mathematics problems within a limited time frame. The last challenge of the morning was the ‘Hot Seat’ where one child from each team was the ‘runner’, responsible for running to an adult with the answer to their current question and collecting the next question until they had successfully answered 30 questions.

Digital Leaders at Dunoon Primary showcase “Our Children Their Future App at SLF
The last two days have been so exciting for Dunoon Primary Digital Leaders. They attended the Scottish Learning Festival and were based at Argyll & Bute Councils Stand.
The children showcased their mobile app called ‘Our Children Their Future’ which provides information about the local authority Education Service Vision and Strategy. The app was created by Digital Leaders with support from Mr Gary Clark.

Maths Week Challenge at Lochgoilhead
Lochgoilhead Primary School participated in Scotland’s Maths Week Challenge with some exciting enquiry based learning. As soon as the pupils arrived on Monday morning, they attended a specially arranged assembly where they were all invited to help solve a problem. The large grass area surrounding the school was too long and needed to be ready by Friday for a sports event. With the usual gardening maintenance team not able to visit the school until the following week, the children were put into mixed age groups to try and come up with possible solutions.

Rugby Session at Minard, Furnace and Achahoish!
Minard, Furnace and Achahoish schools joined together at Furnace Primary school for a fabulous rugby session led by Allan Wright. The weather was wonderful, the children were amazing and the midges were nowhere to be seen. A great afternoon of sport and socialising for the three schools.

Maths week Part two from Minard and Furnace Primaries
Thursday morning saw Minard and Furnace children practice their times tables in an active fashion then they took to the playground to see how many throws of the bean bag were needed to cover 100m. Lots of measuring and subtracting.

Port Charlotte Primary has been recognised with a prestigious national award for innovation and achievement in delivering physical education and extra-curricular sport. Our school has achieved the sportscotland Silver School Sport Award for our commitment to engaging all pupils in sporting activity. A mobile app created by young people from Dunoon Primary School was unveiled at a meeting of Argyll and Bute Council’s Community Services Committee on Thursday 13th September 2017.The app provides information about the Education Service Vision and Strategy, “Our Children Their Future”, and was presented to members by three of Dunoon Primary’s Digital Leaders: Barry Campbell, Cameron MacRaild and Laurie Thorup. Carradale Primary School took part in an open day on Thursday 14th September, the purpose of the day was to showcase the schools resources and teaching methods. Outdoor Maths Learning
Week three of Outdoor Maths Learning at Minard School and the weather was good enough to get out and about for an introduction to geometry. Furnace and Minard boys practised the skills of teamwork, creativity and encouragement this week whilst constructing a 3D shape out of twigs- A good start to Maths Week

Tarbert Academy Pupil Success
Tarbert Academy S3 pupil, Cara MacTaggart, achieved success in the Inspire-Aspire competition organised by Character Scotland. A National Finalist, her inspirational piece has been published along with other winners’ work in the Inspiring Purpose 2017 Awards magazine. The aim of the programme is to give young people the opportunity to think about their values and character strengths whilst also reflecting on who or what inspires them and their aspirations and goals for their future.

Dunoon Primary Vote for Clan Council
This week, the Primary 7 and Primary 6 pupils put themselves forward to be nominated for Clan Captain or Vice-Captain. This involved writing a short speech explaining why they wished to be nominated and what they will do this year to improve the school and support the children in their clans. On Thursday afternoon, we had a Clan Afternoon to carry out the vote. All of the children spoke very well and there were lots of good ideas to support the school. Astronomy for Remote and Islands School Project
Today marks the launch of the ‘Astronomy for Remote and Island Schools’ (AfRIS) Project. With generous support from a Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) public engagement award, the AfRIS project will create and manage a mobile science-outreach team that will deliver astronomy related workshops and activities to schools located in some of the UK’s more remote and island communities. Outdoor Maths at Minard
Collaborative work on the times tables through active learning in class.
Minard’s P4 led the outdoor addition and subtraction treasure hunt for pupils of Minard and Furnace by giving clear instructions before we began and used up loads of energy racing round making sure everyone understood what they had to do! We worked together in teams to get the answers and follow the clues.
North Bute Primary School Highland Games 2017
Despite the dreich and dreary weather on Monday the 12th of June the spirits of the pupils of North Bute Primary School were not dampened as they made their way along to the Port Park for their annual school sports day. The theme this year was the Highland Games and Mrs Gillies had a plentiful supply of activities to keep everyone busy!
