Gaelic unit P6/7 from Sandbank Primary (Bunsgoil Thaigh a’Chladaich) were learning about the history of the Holy Loch area over the past two hundred years. The work was organised by Fiona Lochhead from Kilmun Mausoleum who arranged for a weaver called Fiona MacDougall and a heritage worker called Robin Patel to come in and work with us.

READATHON & WORLD BOOK DAY AT STRATH OF APPIN PRIMARY
Pupils and staff at Strath of Appin dressed in their pyjamas and brought in bedtime stories and cuddly toys to celebrate World Book Day. The classroom had a specially created ‘reading den’ and pupils brought in sleeping bags, cushions, pillows and beanbags. The day was filled with book-themed activities and quiet reading time. Barcaldine PS iPad Training
The pupils from Barcaldine Primary School were invited to attend the ‘Raising Attainment’ Conference on Monday 10th March 2014. The very enthusiastic class were delighted to have been asked to display the work they have been doing with their iPads in the classroom and how technology has become part of every lesson they have. The pupils were asked lots of questions by the visitors to their stall and they were able to answer very confidently and clearly. Maggie Irving held a workshop and the pupils were delighted to have been asked to assist her. They showed a number of people who attended the workshop how they could use iPads to promote literacy learning and how much they enjoy learning in this way.

At our Samba drumming with Steven MacNally, we learned different rhythms. My one was look high look high LOOK HIGH! There were four different instruments. We used Kashishi, Agogo bells tambourim and Sourdo. On Wednesday the 26th February 2014 we performed in front of our friends, family, and the younger class. Thank you Steven, we had so much fun.

Happy Healthy Me
“Primary 1 children in Castlehill invited Campbeltown Nursery to join them for a “Happy Healthy Me” morning.
Everyone had taster sessions in Yoga Bugs, Mini Kickers and Keep Fit. Louise, the school nurse, also spoke to the children about keeping their hearts healthy. A fruit kebab healthy snack was enjoyed by all.”
Academy Award For Port Ellen Primary
‘Scent-Citizens’, run by P4/5 in Port Ellen Primary, is to receive an award from the Social Enterprise Academy. The children in P4/5 have been working diligently over the last few months to set up and manage their own social enterprise business producing soaps and bath bombs. They have been involved in writing their own business plan, creating a company name and logo, designing order forms, invoices and customer feedback froms, making orders for resources, producing soaps and bathbombs, packaging, sales, book keeping and delivery. ‘Options’ Fridays at Dalintober Primary School
Dalintober Primary pupils are enjoying their new skills based programme, called ‘Options’, which has been running every Friday since January. Pupils have ‘opted in’ to one of four areas – Healthy Heroes (Health & Wellbeing), Eco Warriors (Sustainable Education), Techno Whizzes (Technologies) and Smarty Arties (Expressive Arts) – which represent the wide variety of interests and wider achievements of the pupils themselves. World Book Day at Kirn Primary
The children (and teachers) at Kirn Primary were missing on World Book Day! Instead, the school was filled with Little Red Riding Hood, The Big Bad Wolf, Cruella de Ville (and a dalmatian), The Cat in the Hat, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Wally, Nanny McPhee, even Willy Wonka and an Oompah Loompah! Everyone had a great time as they visited other classes to read and be read to. Back in class there was story writing, bookmark making, and of course, lots of reading for pleasure. Sal Team of DPS at Oban ‘Raising Attainment’ Conference
Dunoon Primary’s magnicifent Sal Team attended the ‘Raising Attainment’ Conference in Oban on Tuesday 11 March 2014. The enthusiastic pupils were thrilled to be asked to have a stall displaying their IT skills in Raspberry Pi, Lego We Do and EV3. Their stall was very busy and the pupils displayed very confident clear answers to any questions asked by the visitors. Gary Clark held a workshop and the pupils were delighted to be invited to assist him. The audience asked them lots of questions and they explained the various aspects of the software and how they enjoyed using it. KILMARTIN MUSEUM AND DALINTOBER PRIMARY
Primary five at Dalintober Primary School worked with Kilmartin Museum on a very exciting bird project. First the children, accompanied by Julia Hamilton and Kate Moody form Kilmartin Museum, examined stuffed birds and then they walked round the harbour in Campbeltown to see the real thing. They also visited Campbeltown Museum to see where an exhibition of their work would be. Scarecrow Making
Our pupils in Early Level have been getting ready for spring by making an extremely scary scarecrow. They had fun deciding what he should wear, bringing in a choice of old (and not so old) clothes, from home. Tasteful no, effective yes!
At the moment he is in the entrance, greeting visitors with his scary smile. Once the seeds have been planted he will be moved into the garden.

Raising Attainment Conference 2014.
At Bowmore Primary School, we have been working hard on our amazing garden project. It was admired by Mr Don McAllister and he invited us to attend this conference. All the head teachers of Argyll and Bute were going to be there – we were very excited. We had to get up in time for the 7:00am on Monday 10th March to catch the ferry to Kennacraig. The Literacy Group Plan an Amazing World Book Day
Colgrain Primary P5 Literacy Group planned an exciting day of celebrations for World Book Day. They worked alongside Mrs Neil ( a parent helper) and Mrs Candlish (P6/7 teacher.) Children were invited to dress up as their favourite book character. They were also asked to bring their favourite books to school as a stimulus for quality conversations. We held a whole school assembly, including the nursery, where we learned all about the history of World Book Day and how wide spread the celebrations are. St. Mun’s Sport Their Trainers for Glasgow 2014
With the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games less than 6 months away, the children and staff at St. Mun’s joined in the warm up for Scotland’s biggest-ever festival of sport and culture, by wearing their trainers to school to celebrate Commonwealth Day. Sport Your Trainers was a great opportunity to bring the Commonwealth Games to life in the school, allowing pupils and teachers to show their support in a fun and easy way, ahead of their IDL project on the Commonwealth, which will begin after the Easter Holidays. Coffee Afternoon at Luing Primary
Luing Primary School held a Fairtrade Coffee Afternoon on Thursday 6th March in aid of RNLI. Parents and members of the local community provided a delicious variety of cakes and biscuits, and a comprehensively stocked Fairtrade stall did great business.
Our visitors were treated to a first rendition of some new songs by Ukulele Luing, though the tempo of the tunes increased near the end, when the cakes became available! After only a couple of hours the hugely impressive amount of £137.68 was raised for the RNLI.
The Scottish Book Awards
Primary 1 – 3 pupils from Strone Primary School had a very exciting day out in Glasgow on Wednesday 5th March, attending the Scottish Children’s Book Awards at the Mitchell Library. All the pupils at Strone have been reading the shortlisted titles and voted online for their favourites. At the awards, pupils were able to get their own books signed by the authors and watched the ceremony as the winners were announced.
More literacy themed activities were enjoyed on Thursday 6th March when pupils took part in World Book Day and dressed up as their favourite book characters.

World Book Day Celebrations!
Primary 1 / 2 went Over the Steamy Swamp and had lots of fun. We worked with our shoulder partners and made swamp stories then we made our animal masks. We invited the nursery children for a giant story telling session. They were a very good audience and we all had great fun!
Models In The Making at DPS!!
Pupils, parents and staff of Dunoon Primary School walked the catwalk at the local M & Co store on Thursday evening. The school’s PTA had organised the event to raise money for school trips. The models chose their outfits beforehand and delighted the audience as they wore a range of trendy smart and casual clothes. The sell out event was a huge success and raised over £500 which will no doubt be put to good use next term! Well done everyone – cant wait until next time!
Batman Strikes at Dunoon Primary!
The pupils of Dunoon Primary School were delighted to welcome world acclaimed comic writer Mr Grant Morrison, MBE to their school on World Book Day. Mr Morrison who among other things writes for DC Comics and Marvel Comics enthralled Primary 5,6, and 7 pupils with his talk on his Batman story lines and other Superheroes he has created such as Captain Clyde! He answered many questions the children had about his career and was truly inspirational as he encouraged the children to keep working at whatever they have a passion for and never give up.

‘Tasty Tuck Team’ Hit Dalintober PS
On Friday, the ‘Tasty Tuck Team’, aka Dalintober Primary’s Pupil Council members, launched a new initiative to encourage pupils to bring in healthy snacks for playtimes. They sold some tasty morsels – fruit, pitta breads and crackers – as suggestions and these ‘tasters’ went down a treat with their fellow pupils. Following the current project’s run, they hope that parents and pupils will continue to promote the healthy eating message.
