Pupils and staff at Strath of Appin dressed in their pyjamas and brought in bedtime stories and cuddly toys to celebrate World Book Day. The classroom had a specially created ‘reading den’ and pupils brought in sleeping bags, cushions, pillows and beanbags. The day was filled with book-themed activities and quiet reading time. The whole school homework challenge was a big hit, with children asked to send in photographs of themselves reading in interesting or unusual places which included reading up trees, on diggers, in a wheelbarrow, on horse-back and even on a pair or skis! A Big Book Quiz in the form of a ‘clan challenge’ included rounds with a book-themed scavenger hunt, guess the author and identify the story character.
Primary 4-7 pupils enjoyed a visit to Oban library in the afternoon where they completed their final ‘READATHON’ session. The P4-7 pupils managed to raise the fantastic sum of £280 through their sponsored reading sessions which saw pupils read information books, novels, comics, annuals and listen to audio books. The money raised will go to various charities helping sick children in the UK.
