Dalintober Primary pupils are enjoying their new skills based programme, called ‘Options’, which has been running every Friday since January. Pupils have ‘opted in’ to one of four areas – Healthy Heroes (Health & Wellbeing), Eco Warriors (Sustainable Education), Techno Whizzes (Technologies) and Smarty Arties (Expressive Arts) – which represent the wide variety of interests and wider achievements of the pupils themselves. The school is working closely with parents and partners to utilise talent and expertise within the community. Activities have included dance classes provided by pupils of Campbeltown Grammar School, Playmaker Award with Active Schools, creative storytelling, a beach clean in association with Dalintober Beach Clean Group and the GRAB Trust, local community walks, studies of local buildings, photography and film for a tourism booklet and the development of the school website. There is a lively and infectious atmosphere in the school each week and the pupils are enthusiastic about the new programme, which places a major focus on the development of key transferable skills and personal choice in the curriculum. We are all looking forward to seeing how ‘Options’ develops.
