Luss Primary – Dynamic Youth Awards
Eileen Kay from Argyll & Bute Council’s Youth Services recently came to Luss Primary to present our P7 pupils (Evelyn, Savannah & Logan) with their Dynamic Youth Awards. They received these for all their Eco Work but particularly relating to their work in the garden at Luss.
DGS Learning Support Department Annual Christmas Fayre
On the 16th of December 2015 Dunoon Grammar school Learning support department held its annual Christmas fayre. At the fayre there were lots of different stalls such as tombola, raffle, baking, homemade decoration, wood crafts and Guess the weight of the Christmas cake. For the first time ever there was a Santa’s Grotto and Kirn Primary Nursery children enjoyed meeting Santa and getting a small present.

Castlehill Christmas Craft Fayre and Concert
Castlehill P5,6 & 7 were very busy before Christmas when they organised and ran a Craft Fayre and concert. The whole school contirbuted with crafts for the sale and a grand total of £1300 was raised. Half of the money raised has been sent to World Vision, the other half is for school funds.
Lunchtime Sports Clubs at Castlehill
After training sessions with Mrs Ramsay, Active Schools Co-ordinator, P6 are holding lunchtime sports clubs for Primary 1 and Primary 2 pupils. Great fund is being had by all!
St. Joseph’s success at Local Competition!
Friday 15 January was a special day for two pupils at St. Joseph’s Primary. Both Cameron and Ellisia came 3rd and 2nd respectively in the under 8’s section of the local Toyota Dream Car competition. Both children’s parent attended along with their Head Teacher. It was a proud moment for all the adults as Cameron and Ellisia collected their prize. Who knows?….one of the children’s creations might one day grace the future showroom of Toyota yet!!!!
DGS Debates on Trident
On Friday the 18th December, the pupils of Dunoon Grammar School took part in a whole school debate on ‘should the UK government renew Trident?’ This was the culmination of three weeks of preparation, research and speech writing for everyone involved.
Royal Navy Sea King Helicopters bid farewell to Colgrain Primary
Two Royal Navy Sea King Helicopters set off on their farewell tour of Scotland. One of the helicopter pilots requested a fly-past over the school and staff and pupils were excited and happy to be part of this historical event.

Happy,Healthy Me workshop at Castlehill
Primary 1 and 1/2 invited their preschool friends over to join them in their Happy,healthy me workshop. The children are learning to make healthy choices and were involved in a range of activities including ; making fruit salad, golf and football taster sessions. Catherine McTaggart the school nurse spoke to the children about healthy eating too. What a good start to the new year !
When Sasha Got Swept Up the Chimney
Salen Primary School held a Half and Half Draw after a stunning Christmas Production performance by the whole school and raised £352 towards school funds. Everyone had a superb night and enjoyed the high quality of acting, singing and dancing. Well done!
Myth of the Beast
Luss Primary recently took part in Floris Books Kelpies “Myth of the Beast” story writing competition. Ruby in P3 won her category and received a signed copy of “An Illustrated Treasury of Scottish Mythical Creatures” along with a Certificate. She also won £100 of Kelpies books for the school.
Taynuilt win Oban Library Reading Den Competition with an Igloo!
Taynuilt Nursery children have created and designed their very own milk bottle igloo. We have been collecting the empty bottles from our snack each day for a whole year! We started the first layer in October and is looking like an igloo, ice castle, Santa’s grotto, an animal den……..the list is endless. Our recent topic – Caring and Helping our Environment gave the children a clear focus on how we can reduce, reuse and recycle every day objects! Our more recent topic was Storytime which led us into World Book Week and to a BookBug Session as our topic celebration, and now the children are using it for their library where Winter and Christmas stories are favourable. Feel free to visit our Igloo for a story anytime!
CAST CPD venue change for Oban

Pirates Versus Mermaids show down.
The end of term show at Strone Primary School was a battle between Pirates and Mermaids. Parents and family members were treated to an entertaining afternoon of comic performances and fantastic costumes.
Cinders performed in Luss
Luss Primary performed their annual Pantomime on 10th of December to a packed Village Hall. This year the show was “Cinders” and all the children from P1 to P7 had a part to play. They all did a fantastic job!
Kirn Primary Shares ‘ Love-In-A-Box’
Primary 7 children in Kirn Primary set off to the streets around the school in the last days of December to spread some Christmas cheer with Love-In-A-Box.
A letter from Professor Stephen Hawking to Caleb at Kirn
One of Kirn Primary’s P7 pupils, Caleb McLeod, received a very surprising letter sent by no less than Professor Stephen Hawking himself! Professor Hawking was replying to a letter Caleb wrote at the end of last session to Professor Hawking as part of a P6 letter writing project.

Argyll Collection Writing Competition Winners 2015!
CAST is happy to announce that the following budding writers have won prizes in the 2015 Argyll and Bute Writing Competition, supported by Scottish Book Trust. First prize is scooped by a pupil from Kilmodan Primary, and the battle for the remaining places was so close the judges decided that there would be 3 joint seconds. Bowmore Primary’s Heavenly Nativity!
Our Round Church in Bowmore was buzzing on the evening of the 21st of December. Not only downstairs was full, but the upper seats were being taken as well! Our Nativity and Carols by Candlelight Service was being presented there this year. It seemed extra special and very fitting to hold our nativity in the Round Church. It was lovely to be greeted by our school flautists – they had very nicely set the tone for the evening and again played as we left after the service along with other members of the Primary Wind Band.
