Barcaldine and Ardchattan Primary school children joined forces to entertain the residents of the Lynn of Lorne Nursing Home. They sang a collection of Christmas songs as well as songs from their nativity to the residents who sang along with quite a few of them!! The residents always enjoy the children’s visit.
Dalintober oxfam sale
Dalintober Primary School held an Oxfam Sale on Thursday 6th of December raising nearly £300. The whole school took part by clearing out their bedrooms and bringing in items for the sale. Sixth Year pupils from Campbeltown Grammar School came to help with face painting. As well as the usual stalls there were football and bowling challenges. Primary 5 manned the stalls adding up the correct totals and giving change. Meeters and greeters were on hand to help shoppers find suitable bargains and an enjoyable time was had by all! Christmas Card Competition
Tarbert Academy primary 5, 6 and 7 pupils researched the history of Tarbert Harbour for the Tarbert Harbour Authority Christmas Card Competition. In 2013 the Harbour Authority celebrates its centenary and they wanted the designs to reflect this. The winning design, by Lucy McKinven, shows the mail coach which ran from 1871 to 1913 and the memorial fountain which was donated to the village in 1910 and was removed in the 1940s when it was damaged by a lorry. (Even though the fountain is long gone many local people still refer to the site where it stood as ‘the fountain’). Continue reading Christmas Card Competition

Cardross Primary School P1s have taken to the stage this week to perform their nativity play ‘Prickly Hay’. The P1s were ably supported by musicians, dancers and singers in P2 and 3. Christmas Fayre Dunoon Primary PTA
Dunoon Primary School held their annual PTA Christmas Fayre on 29th November 2012. The hall was beautifully decorated with a huge tree and superb Christmas frieze of a traditional Christmas Scene! There was lots of artistic art work created by Dunoon Primary pupils on display too! The stalls in the hall varied from home made chocolates to jewellery. Speech Contest
On the evening of Friday 7th of December four pupils from Dunoon Primary took part in the final of the Speaker’s Club Competition in St John’s Church Hall, Dunoon. There were ten finalists in total representing local schools including Dunoon Primary, Kirn Primary, St Mun’s Primary and Strone Primary. Blair McColm of P7 in Dunoon Primary was first to deliver his speech on “The Truth about Rottweilers”. Katie Cameron P6 of Dunoon Primary was next with her speech on “Dunoon Primary School Choir”. Panto Season at Southend Primary
The whole school have been involved in putting on a production of Dick Whittington and His Cat. Singing, dancing, acting, painting, writing, costume, set design, stage preparation and props were all elements of the project culminating in two performances to parents, friends and the wider community. FREE CAST samba workshops for your primary school
What: a samba drumming project for p5-7 delivered by a music specialist, focusing on rhythm using Brazilian percussion instruments. In the last week of the block the children will have an opportunity to perform either to other pupils or an invited local audience.

appy days at Dunoon Grammar School
Sean McMahon, an S6 Dunoon Grammar School pupil, has recently developed and launched his own smart phone app for Dunoon Grammar School, named DGS Official App, which is available to download for Android from the Google Playstore. Sean, who is an aspiring software developer, used Java to develop his application. Tarbert Primary – The Broken Roof
P3/4 performed an exciting play called The Broken Roof. We dressed up in costumes and learned words. We were very proud and happy for our play. We all got a good part in the play but the narrators did not act. We felt nervous because there were lots of people at the play. Three children in the play wore Victorian clothes because they were Victorian children in the play. We had fun with it.

Castlehill Primary Christmas Craft Fayre
Castlehill Primary held their annual Christmas Craft Fayre on Wednesday 5th December in the school commencing at 1pm. A wonderful selection of crafts, which were made by the children, was on sale. Our little angels in P1/2 made their own angels which just “flew” off the counters. There were also various stalls including bottle stall, raffle and delicious home baking, all of which was donated by parents, friends, grandparents and staff. By 1.15pm the hall was filling up and the crafts were selling like hot cakes. Tea, coffee and shortbread were served by our PTA who kindly came in to school to help. On Wednesday 6th December Dawn Barrett from Glasgow School of Art’s Access to Creative Education in Scotland (ACES) department came to Inveraray Church Hall to run a portfolio Day. 18 S5 + 6 pupils came from various secondary schools to show some of their work and glean top tips to help them develop their folios prior to applying for art & design courses. Dunoon Primary School Choir recently entertained the Members of the High Kirk Guild and Guests from the Befrienders Association at their annual Christmas Afternoon Tea. The choir provided a varied programme of songs old and new with the hard work of their conductor Mrs Heather Hamlet, supporters Mrs Maureen Scott and Mrs Mary Peek ensuring that songs from this year’s Musical Christmas Tale ‘One Bright Star’ were performance perfect. John Logie Baird Primary 50’s and 60’s assembly
Primary Four pupils at John Logie Baird Primary School recently enjoyed learning about many aspects of the “50’s and 60’s”. They were very keen to share their learning with the rest of the school and their parents so they decided to hold an assembly which would take their audience on an alphabetical journey through the 50’s and 60’s. The children worked very hard to create a script and many exciting props for their assembly which featured many special “guests” such as Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Neil Armstrong, President JFK and Mary Quant to name a few. Crazy Hair Day
Advent is a time for giving to charities and the children of St. Joseph’s very much rose to the occasion on ‘Crazy Hair Day’ on Friday 7 December. The children themselves had instigated this fund raising event for the Guide Dogs for the Blind charity, hot on the heels of a visit by one of its benefactors, Mrs Carr and her adorable golden retriever, Michelle. In total the children raised £144.30 by paying for the privilege of coming to school with as crazy a hair ‘do’ as possible. Ukulele Luing launches their Christmas CD
After lots of anticipation Ukulele Luing launched their Christmas CD on Thursday 29th November. Last years P7s came along to help with the launch. The sales table was extremely busy and everyone enjoyed listening to the CD for the first time.
Ukulele Luing have now now been played on Oban FM, Radio Scotland and Radio 2.

Barcaldine Entertaining!!
Barcaldine Primary School Children went along to St Modans Church on Wednesday afternoon to entertain the Benderloch Senior Citizens Club. The children sang a range of songs as well as a child doing a solo song from Les Miserables. Singing was not the only order of the day as some of our children played their instruments – a fiddlist as well as a trumpeter with only a few months instruction. WOW!! SAL’s little sister!
The SAL team would like to thank everyone for their great posts this term and for sharing the fabulous activity in your schools. After the Christmas break, we will be launching a sister website called SALi (Sharing Argyll Learning Ideas). SAL has become so popular that a sub-site is called for which will offer all our educators a place to share ideas and store useful information. The development of SALi will make it easier to find specific items/resources. Please continue to post to SAL as normal and more info will follow in 2013!
Barcaldine at the Farmer’s Market
Primary 7 pupils of Barcaldine Primary school went along to the Local Farmers’ Market on Thursday 5th December to sell our enterprise makes. We have been busy making lots of things to sell as part of our enterprise project. We took everything along yesterday and were very busy manning our stall. We raised over £65 towards our School Fund.
