Star Winners at Dunoon Primary!

Dunoon Primary pupils did exceedingly well at this year’s final between various local schools at the Annual Speech Contest in St Johns Church Hall.
The competition is organized every year by the Association of Speakers Club, Dunoon and is an excellent way for children to get involved in public speaking. The pupils learn to speak at their own pace as their confidence grows. Few skills impact on your life more positively than learning to speak in public. Taynuilt Primary School Craft Fayre

Children, teachers and parents worked very hard to create many beautiful and practical crafts, gifts, baking and confectionery which were sold at our Craft Fayre on Thursday. The staff and children organised the afternoon, working together to set up the hall, welcome the parents and sell their items. It was almost a total sell out, raising over £600 for school funds and charity.”

Keills Primary Celebrates Book Week Scotland

The week started with a very engaging Book Bug session presented by Lynda Cooper. Our Pre 5 children and parents thoroughly enjoyed participating in story telling, singing and sharing their favourite books.

On Tuesday Ann Pilley organised and supplied us with a great selection of books kindly loaned for the day by C&E Roys. This gave the children the opportunity to enjoy the experience of browsing and reading a range of genre.

Philosophy News from Oban High School

Pupils from Oban High School’s Philosophy Club appeared at the town’s sheriff court yesterday. But thankfully the bright young things were only staging a mock trial, as they looked deeper into their studies on right and wrong.

The trial was fictitious, but was based on real Scottish law.
The case was of a woman accused of driving dangerously by knocking down a high school pupil and breaking both her legs.

Senior Citizen Afternoon at Colgrain

On Wednesday 5th December the Primary 7 pupils at Colgrain Primary hosted a Christmas party for the senior citizens of Helensburgh. The pupils and staff organised Ceilidh dancing, Christmas presents and teas and coffees for their invited grandparents and other senior citizens in the community.
The ladies and gentlemen were then treated to highlights from the Primary 1 Nativity and Christmas songs from our pupils in the nursery.

Big Book Bash at Dalintober

To celebrate Scottish Book Week Dalintober Primary 1 children held a Big Book Bash. The children decorated biscuits and served these to their parents and grandparents along with some juice. The parents and grandparents enjoyed reading the books and looking at the activities the children had been working on. The children voted “Jumblebum the Monster who loves mess!” as their favourite book.

Kilmartin Early Level Class Meet the Bookbug!

Everybody loves the Bookbug and the children in the early level class at Kilmartin P.S. had the opportunity to meet the fellow himself at a special event organised by Argyll & Bute Early Years Team. The children travelled to Lochgilphead Joint Campus in the yellow school minibus, an exciting event in itself, to take part in the singing and storytelling session.

Dunoon Primary Christmas Fayre

Dunoon Primary School PTA held a magnificent Christmas Fayre on Thursday 28th November 2013. The hall was packed with parents, pupils and shoppers as the crowd awaited the choir coming on to do a selection of Christmas songs. Santa was busy in his grotto and the teachers and staff were busy in the tearoom serving up a selection of home baked goodies.

Dunoon Primary’s Eco School’s Commitee 2012/2013 were delighted to receive their second Green Flag Award in the summer of 2013. Our Eco School’s assessor, Paul Love was delighted with all the Eco School improvements our school had made for e.g. further improvements to our Fairy Garden and was delighted to witness a real life mum and dad Coal Tit fly out of the newly designed bird house made by one of our P6 pupils and their grandfather last year. Scottish Hydro Christmas Card Design Winner for Dalintober PS

The Scottish Hydro shop, Campbeltown recently held a Christmas Card design competition for Primary 1 pupils and Gregor’s design was chosen as the winning entry, judged by Miss Mary McMillan. As well as receiving his own prize, Gregor also won a new CD system for his class, and all entrants also received a small treat for their efforts. Drawing Masterclass in Inveraray.

33 senior pupils from across Argyll came together in Inveraray on Monday 2nd December to attend a CAST sketchbook masterclass led by Joanie Jack who runs the portfolio course at Glasgow School of Art within the dept. of Continuing Education. The young artists began by looking at sketchbooks from successful GSA applicants then started working with pencil line and quickly moved on to pen and double line, collage, ink drawing with sticks, mono printing, wet on wet drawing, graphite, charcoal and erasers, ruler and chalk drawing and repeat pattern making. ‘Frantic Assembly’ at Oban High

On 19th November, Higher Drama pupils from Oban High School were given a fantastic opportunity to take part in a full-day workshop with world-renowned physical theatre company, Frantic Assembly. Led by Krista Vuori, a Frantic Assembly director, the pupils learned how to use physical devising techniques to create scenes that were emotionally deep and aesthetically beautiful. Grandparents Day at Port Charlotte

Primary 1/2/3 pupils waited eagerly for the arrival of their very special guests. The children were looking forward to sharing what they had found out about family structures then and now. Lots of activities were planned and delivered by the children. Through interviewing grandparents they found out lots of information about the past. The day began with a ‘Grandma Rap’ which was so well received it had to be sung twice. They presented a portrait, painted by themselves, of a grandparent and delivered a first class talk about their grandparents’ memories of the past. Luing Primary School’s Holly Tea

On Thursday the 28th of November we had our Holly Tea. We sold lots of crafts like slate dominoes from slate collected on Luing. We also sold bunting, button garlands, glass tea lights, Christmas cards and much more. All the things were hand made by the pupils (with help from staff.) Parents and members of the community donated cakes for the baking stall which raised a lot of money. We had games like nail in the bale and guess how many sweets are in the jar. Hermitage pupils win Cross Country awards.

Getting up early on a Sunday to brave freezing temperatures paid off for pupils of Hermitage Primary when they competed at the Garscube Harriers Cross Country. The challenging course didn’t deter the pupils who secured both individual and team prizes. Hermitage Primary is very proud of all the runners, not just due to the awards they received but also because they displayed excellent sportsmanship. A special mention goes to the team prize winners. Rachael McKillop, Sophie Muchie and Sophie McAuley won bronze for the Primary 7s while Calum McGilrvrary, Cameron Cromar and Ruaridh Fletcher scooped silver for the Primary 6s.

Hostel’s Got Talent 2013

Dunoon School Hostel hosted a 2013 ‘Battle of the Bands’ Talent Show Night on Wednesday 27th November. Presenters Struan & Ross who proved an Ant & Dec style type of presenting with confident very funny humour all the way through the show.
