Dunoon Primary pupils did exceedingly well at this year’s final between various local schools at the Annual Speech Contest in St Johns Church Hall.
The competition is organized every year by the Association of Speakers Club, Dunoon and is an excellent way for children to get involved in public speaking. The pupils learn to speak at their own pace as their confidence grows. Few skills impact on your life more positively than learning to speak in public.
Our four finalists,
Alan Mollins, Reece McIntyre,(Fireworks) Lily Danby (Living in a War Zone) and Katie Cameron spoke enthusiastically and confidently as the packed audience waited patiently for the results. The four reserves this year from various schools were unfortunately not called as all the contestants were there on the night. Our reserve, Kyle McClure was cheering on his classmates.
Alan Mollins with his superb speech on ‘How lucky we Are’, which he very proudly, confidently and clearly delivered won him the Star Prize – a gold star and a beautiful Western Ferries trophy for the school which was presented to our delighted headteacher Mrs Sylvia Clark. Katie Cameron was also a lucky winner with her speech on ‘The Life of Ann Frank’. Katie was inspired during a class lesson with her teacher Mrs S Wakefield and produced an excellent speech, very well delivered on her life! Katie was the proud winner of one of the two silver stars for the runners up. Well done DPS is so proud of all our wonderful contestants.
I am so very proud of each and every child who wrote and presented a speech. Congratulations to all who managed to get through to the school final, and what an amazing outcome for the inter-school final!
Marvellous result, well done teachers and support staff too. DPS goes from strength to strength!!!
