The pupils and staff at Lochdonhead Primary School are delighted to hear that they are the winners of the Totally Active category for Scotland in the Total Green School Awards 2013. Our entry was about all the work we have done in our school grounds over the last year. We had to decide what we wanted to do with our grounds, work out how to achieve it, and we have ended up with a ‘story glen’ based on an old Gaelic tale ‘Iolaire Loch Treig’.
Poplar Hawk Moth
This Poplar Hawk Moth was rescued from imminent danger of being squashed from the cashpoint at Tescos! It visited many classes throughout the campus, having been named ‘Reginald’ by an S4 Biology class. It was released back into the wild later that day after a day of adventure!
“Now that’s what I call Easdale”
There was a musical buzz in Easdale School when Guy Forteith came along to record the children singing and playing music. It was really interesting to see all the equipment set up to record. We were amazed how much was needed. Thanks to Hazel Clark our strings instructor for all her hard work with our school orchestra who feature on the CD and to Ann Barlow for accompanying the singing.
Macmillan Dress up and Dance Day
On Friday the 21st of June everyone at Port Charlotte Primary arrived at school dressed up in their favourite dance outfits. P3/4 went to all the classes, collected the £2 donation to Macmillan Cancer Care then totalled the amount. We raised an amazing £122.56. Thank you Macmillan your dance DVD was fun. The assembly on Friday began with a whole school warm up dance session following the movements that we had learnt during the week. Each class also performed a class dance to their own choice of music.

Forest School Sausage Sizzle @ Kilmartin
The children in P.5-7 at Kilmartin Primary School finished off their Forest School activities for the year with a sausage sizzle in the woods around the campfire. The children also made damper bread on sticks and cooked them over the fire before dipping their tasty treat into cinnamon and sugar. The older children have had a wonderful environmental experience this session, learning about the native plants and trees throughout the seasons, building a den and making wooden toys as well as developing teamwork skills.

Mrs Morrison was delighted (and embarrassed) yesterday when she was presented with a lovely bouquet of flowers and cards for her retirement. The North Lorn Schools Co-op Head Teachers (Strath of Appin, Lismore and Ardchattan) yesterday thanked her for all your support and contribution to the smooth running of all our combined activities that we have all taken part in.
Mrs Morrison, Head Teacher is retiring from Barcaldine Primary School this summer.

Fergus Taylor of Barcaldine Primary School came in smiling from ear to ear this morning. He was showing everyone his medal and trophy that he got from the Taynuilt Rugby Club’s Fun night on Wednesday evening.

Park Primary’s Trip Through The Decades
Park Primary’s P6/5, P7/6 and P7 classes all took a trip through the decades during their end of year concert last night (Thursday 20th June) to celebrate 40 years of Park Primary. From the 70s to the present day, the classes performed songs and dance routines to “old favourites” such as Abba and Queen and even performed a hilarious sketch of “Blind Date”! The hall was absolutely packed and a great time was had by all audience members, cast and crew involved in the show. Well done to everyone who took part and performed so well last night!
Snapberry makes Nature of Scotland awards shortlist
On Tuesday 18th June representatives from the Snapberry group attended a reception at the Scottish Parliament for the RSPB Nature of Scotland 2013 awards. Various groups and individuals were nominated in several categories from across Scotland and Snapberry were absolutely delighted to be placed in the finalists’ shortlist in the Community Initiative category – a real testament to how the project has evolved to include the school, SNH, ArtMap Argyll and the Lantern Parade over the last five years. Park Primary 3/2 in Lorn Outdoor Film Festival!
This week has seen the Lorn Outdoor Film Festival taking place in Oban Phoenix Cinema. Park Primary 3/2 class scripted, acted and edited one of the films being showcased, with the help of Sam Harisson. The film had a Fairytale theme and was set in Dunollie Woods, featuring all members of the class. The whole class had great fun creating the film and are enjoying watching it on the big screen!

Dunoon Primary School Rugby Winners
The Primary 6’s in Dunoon, Sandbank, Kirn and St Mun’s schools have been enjoying a six week block of coaching to develop their skills in Non Contact Rugby. Our phenomenal coach was Brendan from Inverclyde. Each Tuesday, the schools enjoyed a 45 minute session where we learned the skills and rules required to play a match. To celebrate the end of our fantastic training sessions with Brendan McGroaty, Lindsay Mitchell of Active Schools organised a Rugby Festival at Dunoon Grammar School on Monday 10th June.

Dunoon Primary Sports Day 2013
Dunoon Primary School held its annual Sports Day today (Wednesday 19th June 2013). The weather was very bright and sunny and the children were all very excited! A wide range of sporting activities with something to suit all ages and abilities ranging from the good old favourite, potato and spoon to the more modern rugby challenge. There was a surprise visitor in the shape of the ‘The Morton Mascot’ there to cheer everyone on! A super afternoon was had by all!
St. Joseph’s Pupils Just Keep on Winning!
Staff and pupils of St. Joseph’s Primary school in Helensburgh were delighted to welcome John Evitt of Missio to school this week, not least because he brought with him a wonderful surprise for P6 pupil Charlotte O’Hara. Way back in November of last year, John visited the school to announce the lunch of an International Competition ‘Missionary Children World Competition’ to mark 170 years of Missio in this, the Year of Faith. Missio launched this drawing competition which was open to all primary school pupils in Scotland.

Rothesay Postcard Event
Pupils at St Andrews Primary, Rothesay are pictured holding just a few of the postcards received over a weekend in May from all over the world.
Well done to everyone who took part in the Postcard to Rothesay World Record Event. Over 400 postcards have been received from as far a field as Japan, Canada, Australia, Spain, Italy! More info about the record to follow.
The plan is to have all the postcards on display in the Cabbie’s Rest at Rothesay Pier in late July, actual date to be finalised.

JLB achieve Silver & Bronze awards at Primary Schools Maths Challenge.
On Friday 14th June, Sasha Barclay, P7 at John Logie Baird Primary, went to Glasgow University to be presented with a Silver Certificate for the Primary Schools Maths Challenge.
Mia Blakey, Courtney Sutherland, Stephanie McCully, Nadiyah Hassan, Alex Guy and Olivia Blenkinsop all recieved a bronze certificate for their hard work and high scores.
Every trunk feels like a baked potato – Patchwork Nursery Do Poetry
Walking With Poets is a residency opportunity for four poets. The project involves setting up poetry residencies at the four Gardens of the Royal Botanic Garden one of which is at Benmore, Argyll.
The Argyll poet, Sue Butler spent a morning with children from Patchwork Nursery, Dunoon. SPORTS DAY AT KILCREGGAN PRIMARY
Kilcreggan Primary School held its Sports Day this afternoon. The weather stayed fine and spirits were high. Parents and friends had a great afternoon with parents taking part in a race at the end of the day. The pupils were arranged into teams and progressed around a number of activities with points added up as they went along. The final two races were a relay and an obstacle course.
Oban High Pupils Rock Sell Out Crowds!
Last week, a cast of over 40 pupils from Oban High School wowed audiences at the Corran Halls for four nights with their production of We Will Rock You. The musical, written by Queen and Ben Elton celebrates the hits of the eponymous rock band through a futuristic comedy tale.
