The children at Dalmally took part in a whirlwind of exciting events in December. They kicked things off with a “Holly Tea” in early December, followed last week by a super Christmas performance. Rothesay Primary Nativity
Rothesay Primary celebrated Christmas together at the United Church of Bute on 21st December. Primary 7 welcomed parents, carers, family and friends by singing carols while Primary 1 got ready. Then, we smiled as in came Mary and Joseph, the shepherds, angels and the innkeeper and his wife – with many travellers – all waving when they saw someone they knew! Farewell Mrs Pierson
Our last day of term has been a very sad day for all of us at Strone Primary School. We had a wonderful end of term Christmas Assembly in Strone Church, but had to say a very sad farewell to our lovely Mrs Pierson. She will be greatly missed by children and staff alike.
She has been an inspiration to us all, keeping us on our toes with her enthusiasm, dedication, kindly ways and wicked wit!! We wish both her and her husband a very happy and adventurous retirement.
Cinderella Rockerfella at Kirn Primary
A huge congratulations to all the cast and crew of the upper school for their outstanding production of “Cinderella Rockerfella” last night. Every pupil in P5, 6 and 7 played an important role as an actor, singer or stage crew. Very well done and thanks especially to those pupils working backstage for keeping everything moving smoothly.

Successful Christmas Concert in Salen
On Monday 19th December Salen Primary held its Christmas Concert. The evening started with the Pre-5 & Sgoil Araich children singing Rinn sinn bodach sneachd an-diugh followed by Jingle Bells. They sang really well and would have kept singing all night given half a chance!
The boys and girls from school then performed Away with the Manger, a hilarious play about Jewel thieves breaking into a school and causing chaos at the nativity. The audience loved the show and said it was the best yet. The night raised over £450 for school funds. Thanks to all the pupils, staff and volunteers for all their hard work. Barcaldine Primary Christmas Party
Barcaldine Primary School had their Christmas Party on Thursday 21st December. We all got dressed up into our sparkly and smart clothes – even the teachers were dressed to impress! We had an awesome buffet to start with and then we moved onto lots of party games. We had lots and lots of fun and we were joined by some Pre-5 children from our village. We were so good this year that even Santa managed to fit us in his busy schedule.
Primary Schools Join Forces for Annual Nativity
Barcaldine and Ardchattan Primary schools joined forces this year for their annual nativity performances in St Modans Church, Benderloch! The nativity was called ‘It takes a Village’ which we thought was rather appropriately named. Our Primary 7 pupils chose their own parts and then helped in the process of picking all the other characters. Every child had a significant role to play and there was plenty of hilarity – the nativity was all in rhyme and there was joyful singing.
The silver collection at the door raised just over £50 and the children selected ‘Help for Heroes’ as their chosen charity this year.
‘Dalintober Rules The Waves!’ Christmas Show
Dalintober Primary School performed at three Christmas Shows for members of the school community. Parents and friends were treated to a nautical themed sing-song from each class as well as some instrumental performances from our musicians and an emotional performance from the school choir. A spectacular finale saw two of our Primary 7 boys performing a crowd pleasing ‘Santa Flatley’ routine. Everyone had a fantastic time and a massive £2304 was raised from entrance fees and raffles. Nativity news from Luing
The children of Luing primary School ended their run up to Christmas with their beautiful service in Kilchattan Church for the Luing community.
The children left the congregation with the poignant message that simple gifts are often more precious. To conclude the service Duncan, Murran and Kyle demonstrated their new talent in playing the clarinet and trumpet entertaining us with a medley of Christmas tunes. Achaleven Angels
Although there are only four wee girls at Achaleven, they love to sing and have been practising very hard some songs to celebrate the Nativity. Our first outing was to the local Etive Club, where we added our songs and poems to their Christmas celebrations. A visit from a very funny Santa soon had us all giggling. Word soon spread that the girls were lovely singers and we were invited to sing for the residents at the Lynne of Lorne Home in Benderloch and Eader Glinn Home in Oban. Lochgilphead Primary 7 Panto
On Thursday 6th December, Primary 7 put on the Pantomine “Snow White” to the members of the public. As the lights went out, the audience waited with anticipation to see what would happen. The curtains rose up and “Snow White” began. The Narraters started “Snow White” which went into the first song. There was the evil Queen and her evil cronies. The cast rolled on, like Snow White, animals, the woodcutter, the teeny tribe (7 Dwarves), Boffins, Hunters but who comes and saves the day, is the handsome and charimg Prince, his cheap aftershave dislodge what was in Snow Whites throat! Baboushka!
Clachan Primary performed Baboushka to a packed audience on Wednesday 19th December. It was standing room only as the story of the Russian peasant woman seeking baby Jesus unfolded. Well done to all the pupils for their excellent singing.
Carol Singing at Bowmore
The Mainstream and Gaelic pre-five units of Bowmore Primary went to visit the residents of Kirk Care on Monday 17th December. They entertained with renditions of ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘When Santa got stuck up the Chimney’. The Gaelic pre-five children followed on with a lovely Gaelic carol. This was a lovely afternoon as the different generations enjoyed each other’s company. The children were suitably rewarded by the residents as they each left with a present, tucked under their arm – thank you so much everyone!

Pre-5 Lochgilphead Joint Campus —Art Exhibition
The Pre-5 Unit recently had a visit from Art teacher, Alec Ohnstad, who gave the children some tips as they painted pictures for their Art Exhibition. Family and friends had the opportunity to purchase the artwork in order to raise funds for the charity, Mary’s Meals. The Art Exhibition was a great success and all pieces were quickly snapped up! As well as the sale of their paintings, the children ran a café and had baked flapjacks to serve to those visiting the exhibition. The fantastic sum of £80 was raised.
A Very Merry Christmas Market
Friday the 7th of December brought the return of the Christmas Market back to Lochgilphead Joint Campus. This year’s market was yet again a huge success with a total of £ 2400.00 exceeding previous years’ totals. The hall was packed with a variety of stalls with different themes and goods. A particular success was the stall from the Technical department which was quickly sold out. The Hoity Toity Angel meets The Gruffalo’s Child
Well done to all our star performers who took part in the Christmas Concert on Monday 17th December in Rhunahaorine Primary.
Children performed The Hoity Toity Angel and The Gruffalo’s Child and entertained their audience with bells, clarinet and trumpet.
The fantastic sum of £250 was raised for school fund. Thank you to everyone who helped and supported the school yet again with a super turnout.
PORT ELLEN AT CHRISTMAS
On Wednesday 19th December 2012 there was a Nativity at Port Ellen Primary School. Primary 1/2 did the nativity with nursery, we thought it was very good they remembered all their lines. They were clear and they enjoyed doing the play, they liked singing the songs and the audience laughed, we really enjoyed it. ‘Carols By Candlelight’
On Monday 17th December, the Round Church in Bowmore was lit up with flickering candles in preparation for Bowmore Primary’s ‘Carols By Candlelight’ service. This was very ably led by P.4/5. It was a very special time for the children and our community. Each class stood and sang either a Christmas carol or song to a packed church whilst P4/5 told us the Christmas Story. Special angels designed by the children, decorated the church. The simplicity of the service reminded us of the meaning of Christmas. By the time the P 4/5 service ended, everyone left the church with a lovely warm Christmas feeling. Merry Christmas everyone.
‘Eddie the Penguin saves the World’ in Skipness!
Skipness Primary School pupils performed ‘Eddie the Penguin saves the World.’ It is an Eco – play which encourages people to save the environment. They held an Eco craft fair after the show having made crafts from recycled materials. They raised £91 for school funds. There was also a visit from Santa followed by tea/coffee and cakes!
