This week in numeracy the children have been making equal groups. Skip counting in 10, 5 and 2. In number talks they have been solving addition problems by adding or subtracting one of the addends to make a friendly number. In writing the children wrote step by step instructions for making seed bombs.  They have explored the water cycle and made a pictogram of ocean animals.  In PE the children have been practising their tennis skills.

Georgia – Yesterday we were drawing the water cycle. The water comes up because of the sun. When it’s raining the water comes back down to the ocean.

Grace – We are doing tennis in PE. We have been practising hitting the ball to each other.

Rhy-Lee – I liked doing the water cycle. When the water goes up it is called evaporation. Then it goes into a cloud. When it’s going to rain it’s called precipitation!

Caleb – In number talks we were making friendly numbers.

Ella – I like doing PE. We did tennis. We were practising how to balance the ball in the racquet.

Oliver – I liked when we were doing PE. I like doing tennis because my Dad sometimes plays with me!

Arianna – I liked number talks. We were making ten then counting on.

Elyas – I liked doing PE. We had to bounce the ball and our partner had to hit it with their racquet.

Jack – I liked working with Josh and Caleb, to make a poster about underwater creatures. We made a pictogram.  It showed all the underwater sea creatures. We had the most pufferfish. The sharks were the least.

Willow – I like doing number talks and numeracy. We have been making ten. We have been counting in 10’s. We made equal groups. Equal means they groups have the same amount.

Kyra – In PE we have been playing tennis. I am good at balancing the tennis ball on the racquet.

Nathan – We learned about the water cycle. The water comes down the mountain and it goes under the mud into the water. It comes from the rain. It goes into the ocean. The sun rises up the water into the clouds and it rains again.

Thea – I enjoyed playing outside with Willow. We did our dance and our dance is called rain on me.

Olivia – I enjoyed PE. I really like playing tennis with Willow. If we missed the ball with the racquet we had to go and chase it.

Josh – We made a picture gram. The picture gram showed six pufferfish, three sharks, three octopus and five fish. We had the most pufferfish! You need to include a title, labels and a key.

At the start of the week P2 discussed children’s rights, what these rights mean to them and how they can help others.  Well done to the two pupils who represented P2 at the RRS accreditation meeting which took place this week. A big shout out to Mrs Smith and the whole school for achieving our Silver Rights Respecting Schools Award! This week P2 have been using rulers to measure in cm the length and height of things around the classroom. The children have also been practising their numeracy targets, some have been skip counting in 4’s while others have been counting on or back from a given number. In literacy the children have been revising sounds and spelling patterns with the ire, ure, and are sounds. Today in assembly we learned about Earth Day and thought about what we could do to help the environment. Please see below for the children’s comments:

Happy Earth Day!

Elyas – I liked learning about Earth Day. We have to learn how to look after the earth, we only have one earth. I am going to eat healthy and pick up litter.

Nathan – I like reading my book. It is called Cluck. The mum gave the girl an egg and it was hot!

Ella – We were learning about Rights. A right is something that you are born with.

Thea – I enjoyed learning about Earth Day. I wrote about it in my Free Writing Friday book. I am going to recycle bottles and plant trees!

Josh – I enjoyed my holiday in South Africa I took two planes and one taxi. It was twelve hours on the second plane and the first plane was one and a half hours. The taxi was half an hour so it was probably twenty hours all together when you add in airport time and taxi! It is good to be back in school to see my friends!

Willow – I have enjoyed doing numeracy. We have done measuring and we were using rulers to measure things!

Caleb – I was making a box for the Star Wars cards.

Jack – I have enjoyed Free Play. I was making a box with Star Wars cards in it and gems!

Oliver – I enjoyed PE. We were racing with the eggs and spoons to see who could collect the most eggs. It was difficult to balance the egg and go through the hoop!

Georgia – I liked the song we sang in assembly it was about kindness I think!

Alexander – I loved doing Free Play. We were playing a game with the cards. You had to put your hand through the hole and pick out a card. If you get a good one you get a point!

Rhy-Lee – We learned about Earth Day. We need to plant trees to help the earth!

Olivia – I liked PE yesterday. I thought it was great fun when we were doing the egg race  including when we went over the benches. It reminded me of cheerleading because it has big beams you have to cartwheel across!

Louis – I love earth because I love nature and space. Today it Earth Day. I am going to pick up rubbish out off the sea!

Ella – I have enjoyed PE. We were doing hockey. I was dribbling with the ball and we were controlling the ball.

Grace – I liked going in the gym hall for assembly. It was about red nose day.

Josh – We were trying to stop the ball before it hits the white line. You had to keep the hockey stick on the right side and turn.

Kyra – I enjoyed crazy hair day. We are raising money for Red Nose Day!

Rhy-Lee – I enjoyed making seed bombs. We had to put water in the big bowl. Then we had to rip up paper and put it in the water. Ms King used a blender to mush it all up. Then we put in blue food colouring. We mixed in seeds. Then we put the seed bombs in the ice cube tray and let them dry.

Willow – I enjoyed making the seed bombs. We put a lot of paper into a bowl with water in it. Then we waited five minutes. We put food colouring in it. We mixed seeds in it. Then we put them in trays.

Alexander – we were doing hockey we were doing a race and had to control the ball around the cones and then come back. You had to dribble the ball all the way.

Louis – We made seed bombs. We needed scrunched up paper and some seeds. Then we put it into a tiny pot. Then they dry up and that’s when we can throw them.

Elyas – I liked doing the seed bombs. We put paper in bowl and then we blended it. Then we also put food colouring in and mixed it. We put flower seeds in and then also mixed that. Then we put them in little containers and waited for them to dry.

Olivia – I enjoyed doing the seed bombs. We needed to tear up paper in warm water and it felt so nice. Then Ms King used the blender and got covered in the paper mixture. We put in some food colouring and then we mixed in some seeds. Then we let it dry.

Oliver – I enjoyed PE. We were doing hockey. We were controlling the ball. We had to dribble through cones.

Caleb – We made a box to capture a Leprechaun. I made it so it was like a box and I would pull the stick back and that would shut the box.

Georgia – I liked free play. We were trying to play a song we really liked. I had a jingle thing and Willow had a clicker thing. Rhy-Lee had the tambourine and Kyra and Ella had the maracas. Grace was using the guitar.

Arianna –  I liked crazy hair day. I had bunches.

Jack – I made a castle with the big blocks. We just stacked each brick and we made gaps for the gun holes.

A busy week in P2 this week. In literacy we have been spelling words with double ll, ss and ff. In numeracy we are continuing with subtraction and in number talks we have been looking for doubles and near doubles using two ten frames. The children enjoyed making self-esteem pizzas with sprinkled toppings of talents and strengths. The children have started the share their home learning, this will continue into next week as they have so much to share! Hope you all have a lovely midterm break. Ella – I enjoyed gymnastics. We have been working together on floor routines. My partner was Rhy-Lee. We did rocket balance at the start and the end. Then we done moon balance and sitting star. I did a rocket roll and then I done a flying saucer and a dish. I think the last thing was a star jump and we finished with rocket balance.

Nathan – I love reading so much. I am reading a book.  The girl is trying to get the dish and the jam. The mum comes up and sees the mess. She tells the girl to tidy up!

Oliver – I liked when we were reading because I really like reading my book. It about a dog with a hurt paw and the vet fixed it. Then he jumped up on her because she fixed the paw and he was happy.

Louis – I like gymnastics. So we done stuff for gymnastics. We were doing a rocket and you jump and go into a moon and roll and go back into a rocket.

Willow – I liked the assembly. It was about mental health week. I stood up and talked about my self-esteem pizza. The toppings have all my strengths and talents. I am kind, I am good at dancing and I am good at cycling. I am also good at gymnastics!

Thea – In free play I was playing teachers. I was teaching Willow math and she got some right and some wrong!

Jack – I enjoyed doing free play. I was making paper chains for my birthday party. You get the paper and glue it and you make a big circle and you keep on doing it. You have to put one bit through the other bit then glue it!

Olivia – I enjoyed number talks. We were doing doubles and near doubles on the ten frames. In the first one there was six dots and the second one has seven dots it’s a near double. I did double six equals twelve and one more equals thirteen.

Caleb – I enjoyed doing the pizza. We made pizza with topping and the topping were our feelings.

Kyra – I liked gymnastics. I liked doing the routines. We were doing pike alien and moon and the star jump.

Alexander – I liked doing free play. I like building the bricks. We were trying to build a stage so we can rock and sing!

Georgia – I liked reading. I am reading Tag. Pip was it, they find Tip first then they come to find Zip and Zip was in a rocket. Zip pressed the wrong button and he zoomed away!

Josh – I liked making the pizza. The toppings were what we are good at. I put on sport, swimming, running and stuff like that.

Elyas – I liked the pizza that we made. It has our feelings on it and things that we are good at. I am good at running, building and I am good at climbing.

Rhy-Lee – I liked doing the gymnastics. We were doing rocket balance and star jump. Then we done a roll and flying saucer. We were pointing our toes!

Arianna – I enjoyed reading. A little girl gets a pot and a bowl. She gets jam in it and she gets it on her leg and her chin. I like to read!

In literacy this week P2 have been sorting words into alphabetical order. In numeracy the children are continuing with subtraction using number lines and number tracks. Josh –  I liked making the dance floor. We put lots of paper together with tape. Then we coloured in each rectangle.

Olivia – I liked painting the Chinese good luck symbol for Chinese New Year.

Oliver – I liked learning about Chinese New Year. They make lanterns to celebrate and they wear red for good luck.

Grace – I enjoyed learning about magnets. So when you have something metal and you put it against other metal it can sometimes connect to each other and sometimes push away. Its depends which type of metal it is. If its magnetic it can pull together.

Caleb – We were sorting the alphabet in order. It has 26 letters!

Willow – I liked doing the Chinese New Year symbol. I painted a good luck symbol.

Elyas – I liked finding out about Chinese New Year. It’s the year of the tiger!

Thea – We went to the library. I was reading The Witches with Georgia, there was two books. I like when the granny tells the boy the sentences when they little legends!

Louis – We were writing about our boats. I have cakes and a speed boost!

Arianna – We were doing the ABC’s. We were doing them on a sheet then we put them on order. I am good at it!

Nathan – For Free Writing Friday I wrote, my house is good to play in!

Rhy-Lee – I liked doing magnets. They stick to another magnet because they are magnetic!

Jack – I enjoyed making the dance floor. It took hard work and we had to use team work. I started doing it with Caleb and Josh and other people wanted to join in. We are making decorations for my party!

Ella – I liked playing with the Polly Pocket Land. We started with some rice and then we got some wood and gems. We made gardens and pools and some flowers and trees. We are going to add lego and make some other stuff. We were working together to make it!

Georgia – I liked being in the library. I was reading Charlie and Chocolate Factory and The Witches. I was reading when Charlie gets his golden ticket. I like that bit because I like the golden ticket, I would like to get one!
