P3 – 27/5/22

Good afternoon,

This week P3 have been learning:

  • In literacy, the class were writing their hot piece of narrative writing
  • In Maths, P3 were measuring in cm and m. They also learned about shape and tessellation. We looked at the graphic artist M. C. Escher and created our own tessellated art work digitally.
  • In ICT, P3 researched Escher and have created a PowerPoint in pairs to add images of their tessellation art work and will be adding information they researched about Escher into the PowerPoint that they will eventually share with the class.
  • Today saw the last day of Bikeability and a journey to Mill Farm, cycling past the river, over hills and even a cross road for the train at Almond Valley. I am thankful that the weather was on our side today!

P3 This Week

Good afternoon,

I hope that you all had a pleasant Easter break.

This week P3 have been learning:

  • In Numeracy, we are finishing our learning on fractions. We learned about fractions after a whole (5/4 being the same as 1 and 1/4) and we used number lines to count up.
  • In Maths, we walked around the local area collecting data using tally marks about local housing and the different types of housing. We also looked at compass directions, placing locations on a map and using maps.
  • In Literacy (and ICT), we typed up our recount writing using Microsoft Word onto PC’s and learned how to print our work.
  • In Art, we finished painting the base of our paper mache King Tut masks.
  • In Science, we predicted the outcome of our tomato mummification experiment and wrote up our results.

Have a lovely long weekend.

Happy Easter P3!

Fantastic week this week P3. We continued learning about fractions in our Numeracy. In literacy, we are in the final stages of our recount writing. We learned a lot about Maundy Thursday and Easter in RME and lots of facts about Tutankhamun for IDL.

To top it all off, P3 loved taking part in an Easter Digi Day with the support and help of the LVPS Digital Champions. Thank you leaders!

This Week in P3 – W.C. 14.3.22

In P3 this week, we have been learning…

In Numeracy and Maths, we started learning about fractions. Looking at the numerator, denominator and fraction bar. Then learned about unit and non-unit fractions. We used the concrete materials to build a Fraction Museum and took our partners on a tour of our Museum’s! We then were able to show our understanding of fractions by answering questions in a Kahoot quiz.

We took part in some wonderful lessons from the National Museum’s Scotland all about Dinosaurs which linked in well with British Science Week this week!

The STEM leaders worked with the class today to plant seeds into gloves using cotton wool balls. We will watch these grow and develop.

Happy Red Nose Day everyone!

P3 This Week – W.C. 28/2/22

This weeks round up in P3:

  • A large part of our literacy this week has been given to finishing our mythical creature writing to complete our book. P3 have done an amazing job in their writing and I am very proud of them. Please see the last blog post from P3 which has a sway link to follow, showing the process of our writing project.
  • In other literacy work this week, P3 were showing fantastic listening skills during the readings of book and gave wonderful feedback to the readers.

  • In numeracy, P3 have been looking at the six times table and the patterns and relationships between other times tables (e.g. double the three times table etc.)
  • In maths, P3 have been looking at money. This week they have been focussing on change given from higher amounts and counting multiples of an amount using skip counting e.g. – 5 pence’s.

It was World Book Day on Thursday! We had a wonderful day with lots of literacy fun activities including the masked reader, a BBC live lesson and we ended the week making origami bookmarks!

On Friday, we had the pleasure of working with the P7 Young STEM leaders in the new STEM Discovery Den. They showed us an array of activities with wonderful instruction, which the groups took rotations of. P3 were very impressed and loved their time with the leaders.

Have a lovely weekend!

What has been happening in P3

Good afternoon,

I hope that you enjoyed the long weekend at the beginning of this week.

Primary three have been working hard on their writing projects over the past few weeks. They have been making and creating their own mythical creatures using new sketching and drawing skills, and working with clay and paint. They have written their first draft of their information report all about their mythical creatures that they have created. P3 have learned all about the myths and legends of Scottish creatures and have used this information, along with their visit to the Kelpies to produce their own myth.

In numeracy, we have been working on our times tables. This week we have started looking at our three times table. We have now learned our 2, 4, 8, 5 and 10 times tables.

As it was Random Act of Kindness Day on Thursday, the class discussed acts of kindness and what they could do around the school and at home.

The class are continuing to develop their joining of letters in handwriting.

In PE, we have been learning about badminton and practising bouncing the shuttlecock with the racket, passing to partners and practising various ways to serve.

Have a lovely weekend.
