Blog Post – Wb 22/8

This week has been our first full week in Primary 7, and we’ve been really busy adapting to our new routines.

Highlights

Anna – This week I have enjoyed creating an advert for Camp Green Lake as part of our Class Novel Study. We are reading Holes. We had to use our skills in communication, ICT, editing and teamwork to create our finished product. We used iPads and iMovie to help us and then shared via a QR Code on our classroom wall. I also enjoyed spending time with my Buddy and completing a Scavenger Hunt with them.

Leo – I enjoyed PE this week as we have been doing Basketball. I liked the skills challenges and the teamwork during game play. I also had fun doing the Scavenger Hunt with my Buddy as it is a great responsibility to support our Primary 1 friends.

This week have had French and Spanish which we really enjoyed. In Spanish we learned about colours and got to ask each other what colour was our favourite.

We have also been continuing to work on our Author’s Journey story writing. Mr Stephenson from ICHS came to listen to our Authors Chair and he gave us feedback. It was really good to get feedback from him as he is an author too as well as a teacher!

This week has also been Children’s Mental Health Week so we watched the Place2Be Assembly and then spoke about connecting with others and cheering them on. We wrote on pieces of paper on each other’s backs about what we really liked about them. It was nice to see so many nice things written about me.

Maths was looking at symmetry and also problems solving. Its fun trying to do problem solving as Mrs Taylor was giving us House Points for finding lots of ways to find the same answer.

This week it was P6 who did assembly. They spoke about Mental Health and how to stay connected and remember to speak to Trusted Adults.

Miss Quinn came to visit from ICHS to talk about High School. She asked us to write about the things we liked and gave us a chocolate too. We got to ask lots of questions about what High School might be like.

It’s been another busy week in P7!

This week we have been learning:

Algebra, we started working on it on Monday and some of it can be easy but some bits of it can be a bit challenging.

Spanish, we had our first Spanish session on Monday with Mrs Gordon and Miss Martinez. We enjoyed learning new words.

Gymnastics, we have been working on Gymnastics routines the past few sessions and performed them on Wednesday in front of the class in groups and we enjoyed giving feedback to each other.

Science, we had science with Mr Keast and we were learning about the Chinese New Year on Wednesday.

French, Madame Moore came in on Thursday morning and we learnt some the words for vegetables in French. We found it fun to play the games too. We have learned 41 new words over the last 3 weeks!

Writing, we have been working on an ‘Author’s Journey’ writing piece, about someone famous or someone in the past which was fun to write about. Next we need to edit and revise our writing further to make sure we are creating a great final piece of writing for our book.

Scottish Loves Languages, for this event we have been challenged to do several different things to earn points and we have done some drawing of the Eiffel tower, we listened to The Gruffalo in Spanish and sang a French song.

We have really enjoyed this week with Mrs Taylor and other teachers, and we are looking forward for the week ahead.

Languages Week Scotland

Next week is Languages Week Scotland and as part of our learning we have set some home learning challenges. The challenges are attached and children can complete as many challenges as they like, 5 house points will be awarded for each challenge completed so make sure to share your child’s learning on  Seesaw or Teams or send it in to share in the classroom. Have a great week.

2021 Outdoor timetable Term 4

Outdoor Learning will be running again this term and the days and classes are listed below.  We ask that the children can be as suitably dressed as possible on the days they will be going outdoors.  Please consider that we could be walking through woods, soft muddy ground, or wet grass. It could rain, be windy, cold, snowing, drizzling or hot sunshine.  On very hot sunny days you may want to provide sunscreen for your child to apply.

It is always advisable to wear layers and always have a coat/raincoat.  The school has waterproof trousers and rain jackets for those that need them.

Whatever the weather, sandals are not suitable!  Some trainers may not be waterproof enough – it may not rain today but the ground could be muddy from yesterday’s rain.  Sturdy shoes, sometimes even wellies are a good idea.  Again the school has some pairs of wellies if they are needed.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Smith
