Ochiltree Term 1

October already!!!

We cannot believe how quickly the first term has passed – and how much we have squeezed into the time we have had!

Of course much of it was getting to know our new school and environment- and we are loving it. We have been so lucky to get to experience so much outside with the weather on our side. The children are experiencing all the wonderful playground resources as well as the natural environment and of course the bikes and wheelchair track. We have also been busy doing some Autumn gardening and hopefully we will have lovely blooms in the spring to bring some colour to our class garden areas.

Moving inside and we have been trying out all the lovely new equipment and areas around the school – a favourite being the multi-sensory!

We have all been working hard on our life skills and Asdan qualifications through fun and meaningful activities. We are enjoying lots of interaction with the senior class and utilising our secondary area for getting together for snack, dinner and cross class activities.

We will continue to keep you updated in all we do through our Learners Journals but don’t forget to check Twitter and the Blog for whole school updates.

We wish you a happy holiday and look forward to continuing into the next term with new challenges ahead.

Ochiltree Class of 22/23

Ochiltree Class of 22/23 have had a very busy, fun and challenging year and all the children have given it their all to be confident individuals, responsible citizens, effective contributors and successful learners.

For our last term we continued the theme of working hard and playing hard. For the walking month of May we went on our daily walks enjoying different sensory experiences of the different areas we visited. We also physically challenged ourselves to walk in/on different areas we would have avoided!

We were able to complete our Asdan, SQA and Duke of Edinburgh work of which I am sure we will get positive feedback for.

Our cross class activities were brilliant this year and all enjoyed each others company and interacting with each other for all the different activities such as assembly or outdoor play.

We have had lots of health and wellbeing activities from bike riding to mindfulness, gardening to rebound and boys/girls group for personal care. Some of the pupils also participated in a health group which was amazing! showing their resilience and bravery for accepting medical routines.

We have continued to have an effective whole school and community approach to Learning for Sustainability weaving together global citizenship, sustainable development education and outdoor learning to create coherent, rewarding and transformative learning experiences such as Earth Day, Fairtrade Tuck, gardening, outdoor numeracy activities, forest trails, walks and Eco activities.

We will be saying goodbye to our friend Duncan who will be moving on with best wishes from us all. We will all be saying goodbye to our building but look forward to new beginnings.

Have a fantastic holiday and see you all again for 2023/24!

Term 4 in Duntarvie 22-23

Spring term in Lomond class

What great fun we have had this term. We have been lucky to be able to go horse riding and the weather was really kind to us. We have done lots of sensory exploration through water play, messy play and our sensory boxes.  We have let our imaginations shine with some dressing up and some imaginary play with babies and water- what a great combination!

We are looking forward to going on some new adventures next term, hopefully the sun will continue to shine for us and we can spend lots of time outside.

Here are some of our highlights from this term.

Pentland – Term 3

I think I say the same thing every time … but how is it the holidays again already?!?!

We’ve had another very busy term and especially enjoyed our families coming in to join us for a Clown Doctors session, Burns’ Ceilidh, Fairtrade cafe and Red Nose Day cafe!

Our current topic is Spring which we will be continuing next term. We have also taken part in Chinese New Year, Valentines, ECO and British Science Week activities.  Phew!!!

Two of our favourite activities were making Mr Nonsense (now our new class mascot) for the Red Nose Day cafe and throwing our wildflower seed bombs around the woodland to help the local wildlife…

The staff working hard too…

Think they enjoyed it as much as the children…

Our finished product…

Happy Easter from everyone in Pentland!

Pentland – Term 2

WOW! Who can believe Christmas is here already!

We’ve had another very busy term in Pentland with lots of new learning and fun celebrations including World Smile Day, Diwali, Halloween, Bonfire Night, Scottish Book Week, St Andrew’s Day and, of course, Christmas!

We have really enjoyed having our families back in school to take part in the Live Music Now café, watch our Christmas performance and see us meet Santa.

Our topic this term was ‘Day & Night’. We had fun creating day and night skies in art, bathing and dressing baby dolls for daytime and night time activities, and taking part in some day and night drama activities, including putting on our PJs and then snuggling up with a teddy for a bedtime story!  We also explored dancing to lively and calm music and played some time games including ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’ and ‘Here we go round the mulberry bush’.  Some of our boys also explored day and night sequencing, sorting and opposites during our weekly maths group.

Here are a few photos of our topic work…

Bedtime!

Our completed art gallery…

Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to all our families from Team Pentland.

Pentland – Term 1

Ahoy Me Hearties from the Pentland Pirates!

What a busy (and quick!) first term here in Pentland. We started the year with a Pirate theme which we explored through various activities including art, cooking, sensory play, stories, dressing-up and physical games and activities…

Pirates was also the theme for our Class Charter…

We had a visit from Cool Creatures…

We looked for signs of Autumn during an Autumn Scavenger Hunt and used our senses to explore autumnal objects…

But our highlight has definitely been horse riding…

Our art wall so far with boats, treasure maps, treasure chests, leaf hedgehogs and shaving foam art…

Hope everyone has a great holiday and we’ll see you next term for the countdown to Christmas!!

Ochiltree Term 1

Ochiltree has had a fantastic start to the year and we have had a great time learning, having fun and getting to know each other.

We were busy the first couple of weeks making displays for our Class Charter and our Target work. Our theme being balloons. So we had a fun photo shoot to help make the display.

The boys have been enjoying our Boys Group that we have started – they are going to have the girls heads turning by the end of the year they will be looking and smelling so good! They have been really motivated and trying hard to help themselves with their own personal care and we are looking forward to seeing how well they come on over the year.

The children are working hard to achieve their IEP targets as well as ASDAN and SQA quaalifications. They are working well individually to carry out class jobs/home chores as well as physical exercises and trying out new experiences such as rebound, archery, meeting new animal friends and peers.

We hope you all have a great holiday and we are looking forward to the next term and all things Christmasy! x
