Ochiltree Summer Update 🌞

As we come to the end of term, we are excited to share some of the activities we have taken part in. It has been a busy time with lots of opportunities to build confidence, try new things, and enjoy learning in different ways.

Sports ⚽🏃‍♀️

We have had opportunities to take part in a range of sports events with other schools such as athletics and football. These events are super for helping develop teamwork, communication, and confidence, everyone did a fantastic job taking part, trying their best, and encouraging each other. We’ve also been enjoying our swimming blocks at Xcite.

Sensory Theatre Trip 🎭

Some of us experienced a sensory theatre performance designed to be engaging and accessible for all learners where we were able to explore sounds, lights, textures, and movement as part of the storytelling. This was a lovely experience and we really enjoyed the interactive elements.

Sailing Trip ⛵

Our sailing trip gave pupils the chance to try a new activity in a safe and supported setting. We thoroughly enjoyed having a turn of steering the boat and the smiles on our faces said it all!

Bowling 🎳

We also enjoyed a bowling trip with our friends in Duntarvie. It was lots of fun and we especially enjoyed the chips and ice cream after!

Malawi

As part of our UNICEF work, we have developed a lovely partnership with a new school in Malawi which has just been built. We have enjoyed learning about life and education there and together we created a special flag to represent our connection which is now hanging in their new school.

ASDAN Challenges ✅

Throughout the term, we have been working hard on our ASDAN challenges. These activities help develop independence and life skills at an appropriate pace. We have embraced all of these new challenges and are making fantastic progress towards achieving our certificates.

Have a lovely summer! 🌼

Pentland Summer Term!

🌟 A Wonderful Term in Pentland Class 🌟

What a joyful and memorable term we’ve had in Pentland! It has been filled with laughter, learning, and so many special moments that we are delighted to share with you.

The children have had great fun developing their skills on the trikes and wheelchair bike, showing determination and pride as they practiced steering, pedalling, and navigating around the playground. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow each week, with lots of smiles and cheers along the way!

Our swimming sessions have also been a fantastic success. The children have worked incredibly hard at building their confidence in the water, and it has been amazing to watch them become more relaxed and adventurous. From splashing and kicking to floating and moving independently, every small achievement has been celebrated—and the enjoyment on their faces says it all.

Friendship and social interaction have been at the heart of everything we’ve done this term. The children have loved spending time playing together, sharing experiences, and building relationships. Whether indoors or out, there has been so much joy in simply interacting and having fun with their friends.

We were lucky enough to enjoy some wonderful trips this term too! Our visit to the Lyra Theatre was a truly special experience, sparking curiosity and excitement. Another highlight was our sailing trip, where the children embraced the adventure and had an incredible time trying something new in a supportive environment.

Back in school, our Fischy Music sessions have been full of energy and happiness. The children have loved singing, playing instruments, and moving to the music. These sessions have been a brilliant way for everyone to express themselves while having lots of fun together.

With the sunny weather blessing us, we’ve made the most of our playground, enjoying outdoor play and activities in the sunshine. There has been so much laughter and exploring all the playground equipment and simply enjoying being outside with friends.

We were also thrilled to have a visit from the M&M Theatre Company, who performed a delightful production of Pinocchio. Most of the children were captivated by the characters, music, and storytelling.

Another favourite activity has been our soft play sessions. These have been filled with excitement as the children climbed, balanced and explored the ball pool and swings. Not only was it great fun, but it also supported the development of important gross motor skills—and of course, lots of shared laughter with friends!

We also came together to celebrate World Epilepsy Day by wearing purple. It was a lovely opportunity to raise awareness and be part of something meaningful as a community, with everyone proudly joining in.

As we come to the end of such a happy and busy term, we want to say a huge thank you to all our families for your continued support. It truly makes a difference and hps create such a positive environment for the children to flourish.

We wish you all a wonderful, relaxing summer filled with fun and special moments. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting term ahead!

Cricket Festival

🏏 On Monday, three of our athletes took part in the first-ever Edinburgh Disability Cricket Festival at Inverleith Park!

Joining pupils from across the East of Scotland, they had a fantastic time — especially teaming up with pupils from Tynecastle High School. The day was packed with action as they developed their striking, bowling, catching, throwing and running skills.

To top it all off, we finished with a well-earned picnic in the park 🧺😋 — a perfect end to a brilliant day!

This morning Thea, Lewis, Riley, Jaxson, Madison and Jeet represented Beatlie at the ASN Active Schools Athletics Festival.

Ochiltree Term 1

What a busy first term we have had in Ochiltree, we’ve really enjoyed making the most of the last of the sunny weather!

We particularly enjoyed our beach themed sensory sessions out in the garden which has now been swapped for a lovely cosy Autumn sensory session which we’re enjoying just as much. We’ve been busy focusing on our health and wellbeing through our weekly health group looking after our bodies and we have been keeping fit and healthy through our cross class PE groups where we have been exploring music and movement, team games and ball skills.

We’re looking forward to next term where will begin working on our ASDAN challenges so we’ve got lots more exciting things to come!

Team Ochiltree wish you all a healthy October break.

ASN Fun Run

Today 4 of our athletes represented Beatlie at the ASN Fun Run at Cedarbank School.

The boys took part in the 0.5km walk/run  🏃‍♂️‍➡️ and placed 4th, 9th and 12th out of 20 competitors.

In the 1km wheelchair race our female athlete came 1st!! 🥳

We are super proud of them as this was a really busy event with lots of new faces and an unfamiliar route.
