Classrooms for Malawi 💚❤️🖤 UNICEF

Classrooms for Malawi is a charity with a big heart and a clear mission: to give children in Malawi safe, bright places to learn. In many parts of Malawi, classrooms are overcrowded or in poor condition, making it difficult for children to get the education they deserve. Classrooms for Malawi work directly with local communities to build and improve school facilities, helping to create welcoming environments where children can thrive.

Their work closely connects with the values behind UNICEF’s Outright campaign, which highlights the importance of children’s rights—particularly the right to education, safety, and opportunity. UNICEF’s Outright campaign encourages young people and families to take action to ensure all children, everywhere, can grow up healthy, educated, and protected. Classrooms for Malawi brings these ideals to life by making education more accessible and equitable for children in one of the world’s most disadvantaged regions.

This year we have been lucky to partner with this charity to learn more about their work and help raise awareness and we now have a very special connection with Ntondoko school which they have just returned from helping to build. Tina and Maureen from the charity visited us earlier this year to tell us about their new project and they brought along some very special objects from Malawi for us to explore which we really enjoyed. We then worked hard to create a gift for them to take to Malawi to present to the new school and pupils. They have just returned from their trip to Malawi and it was so exciting to see lots of photos and videos of the new school being built, of our flag being handed over and of the pupils there having fun with bubbles! They also brought back with them some extremely special gifts from our new friends which we are thrilled to have.

We are really looking forward to keeping up to date with our new friends! Take a look at our video highlighting this very special journey…..

Ochiltree Summer Update 🌞

As we come to the end of term, we are excited to share some of the activities we have taken part in. It has been a busy time with lots of opportunities to build confidence, try new things, and enjoy learning in different ways.

Sports ⚽🏃‍♀️

We have had opportunities to take part in a range of sports events with other schools such as athletics and football. These events are super for helping develop teamwork, communication, and confidence, everyone did a fantastic job taking part, trying their best, and encouraging each other. We’ve also been enjoying our swimming blocks at Xcite.

Sensory Theatre Trip 🎭

Some of us experienced a sensory theatre performance designed to be engaging and accessible for all learners where we were able to explore sounds, lights, textures, and movement as part of the storytelling. This was a lovely experience and we really enjoyed the interactive elements.

Sailing Trip ⛵

Our sailing trip gave pupils the chance to try a new activity in a safe and supported setting. We thoroughly enjoyed having a turn of steering the boat and the smiles on our faces said it all!

Bowling 🎳

We also enjoyed a bowling trip with our friends in Duntarvie. It was lots of fun and we especially enjoyed the chips and ice cream after!

Malawi

As part of our UNICEF work, we have developed a lovely partnership with a new school in Malawi which has just been built. We have enjoyed learning about life and education there and together we created a special flag to represent our connection which is now hanging in their new school.

ASDAN Challenges ✅

Throughout the term, we have been working hard on our ASDAN challenges. These activities help develop independence and life skills at an appropriate pace. We have embraced all of these new challenges and are making fantastic progress towards achieving our certificates.

Have a lovely summer! 🌼

Classrooms for Malawi – UNICEF Outright Campaign 2025-26

Part of our UNICEF Outright Campaign this year is about raising awareness of international aid particularly in relation to climate change and education and today we were thrilled to have a visit from Tina and Maureen from the charity ‘Classrooms for Malawi’. We really enjoyed learning about some of their projects and we loved exploring the items they brought along which included materials, tools, artwork and toys. We learned about the gift bags that the charity give to children in Malawi which typically contain a small tennis ball, a woolly hat, and some toiletries and we watched some video clips of some of the songs and games the children enjoy.

We’re really excited to start planning a special gift that we are going to make for them to take to Malawi in June when they go to start building their next classroom.

World Childrens Day 2025

World Children’s Day 2025

‘my day…. my rights’

‘From the moment the sun rises, children wake up to a world shaped by choices they didn’t make. But every child, everywhere, also wakes with rights. Including the right to be protected, to learn, and to have their voice heard’ (UNICEF)

To celebrate World Childrens Day we explored some of our rights through stories, games, food and sensory play. We hope you enjoy our video of some of the fun we had!

Unicef World Children’s Day 2023

Today marks World Children’s Day on the calendar and to celebrate the rights of the child we participated in all things blue.

Lots of pupils and staff wore blue in support and all pupils used blue materials to make a giant blue collage.

Take a look at how it came together.

World Food Day

This week in Beatlie we recognised World Food Day by making sensory bottles with the focus ‘Water is Life, Water is Food. Leave No One Behind’

World Food Day takes place annually on 16 October and promotes awareness of hunger and action for the future of food, people, and the planet.

Take a look at how much fun we all had making the bottles and how great they all look now they are finished.

Ukraine Collection Update

THANK YOU!!!

What an amazing response to our appeal – we even had donations from members of the local community and our neighbour Letham Primary!

Yesterday I filled my car, so today I brought my big car…..and I still ran out of space and had to call on help!

We had so many donations of wipes and nappies, plus some baby powder and food, so we have donated some of these to a charity preparing baby boxes to make sure everything gets to where it is needed the most.

Yesterday…

Today…

Thank you again to everyone who donated, you are all amazing!
