This week we have continued with our learning about the Scottish Wars of Independence with a focus on Robert the Bruce. In literacy we enjoyed writing a narrative story using a picture stimulus and enjoyed loads of reading activities during World Book Day.
Our number focus this week was using brackets for our calculations and exploring probability and chance.
P6 had an awesome week, here is some of the stuf that we did 😀
We also met with our p2 buddies for the first time, while with our buddies we read a book to each other. We had such a good time.
Some p6 parents also came into our class for a career talk.
Yesterday Primary 4 celebrated World Book Day. Some of us came to school dressed as our favourite characters. We had Horrid Henry, Elsa, Anna, Iron man, Dennis the Menance, Amy Porter, Matilda to name a few.
We also had Harry Potter, Drako Malfoy and Hermione from Harry Potter. We have been reading this in class.
St Nicholas celebrated World Book Day with an abundance of characters from lots of different books. The teachers all swapped classes for a while and read their favourite story to another class to another class. Here’s just a few photos of some of the antics that went on….

Happy World Book Day from primary 5/4!
As today is World Book Day, lots of us came to school dressed as our favourite characters from our favourite books. This morning in class we read our favourite stories and then listened to a story and poem by Roger McGough on BBC Autors Live. We wrote about our favourite book and character and asked our friends what their favourite book is and why.
Mandipa – I love “Alice Miranda at School” by Jacqueline Harvey because the girl in the story is very brave as she leaves her parents and starts boarding school.
Jaime – My favourite stories are “Katie Morag” by Mairi Hedderwick. I like them because they are based in Scotland and Katie Morag is not afraid of anything. She goes on lots of adventures on the Isle of Struay.
Eoin – Roald Dahl is my favourite author and I really enjoy reading “Danny the champion of the World”. In the book Danny and his dad come up with a plot against the evil Mr Victor Hazell!

Today has been a very busy and exciting day at St Nicholas Primary School as we all dressed up as our favourite book characters for World Book Day 2014! The boys and girls made a great effort with their fantastic costumes and we had great fun working out who everyone had come dressed as.
There were lots of beautiful princesses, cool superheroes, wise wizards and lovely fairies around the school, it was a magical place to be. We had Horrid Henry, Harry Potter, Matilda, Billionaire Boy, Gangsta Granny, Fantastic Mr Fox, Cat in the Hat, Oliver Twist… Even Sir Alex Ferguson paid a visit to St Nick’s today!
There were lots of fun activities going on throughout the school; we were sharing our books with friends through paired reading, giving reviews of our books and looking at the ways that famous authors help us to imagine characters in books that have no pictures.
In the upper school we decided to give our area a make over by creating a reading zone! We removed all the books from the shelves and put them into order, moved our book shelves around and started a new display. We can’t wait for the area to be completed so we can make great use of all the fantastic novels in the school and continue to enhance our reading skills. Check back soon to see photos of the finished product when we complete the transformation of our reading zone!
To celebrate World Book Day, we have all been given the opportunity to come to school dressed as our favourite character from a book that we have enjoyed reading. Some of us decided to dress up as character’s from the Roald Dahl novels that our teachers have been reading to us in class. We are going to be involved in some exciting literacy activities to celebrate this special day.
Thursday 6th of March is World Book Day and we are celebrating at St. Nicholas Primary by dressing up as our favourite book characters!
You could come dressed as Harry Potter, The Hungry Caterpillar, The BFG or Dennis the Menace! (There may even be a teacher or two dressed up!!!)
Bring your favourite story book with you to enjoy with your friends!
