Trip to the Town Hall

On the 1st of May we went to the Town Hall. We sat in the debating chamber which had lots of chairs and microphones.

We asked Malcolm Bell and Billy lots of questions. Such as:

  • “Why the skips were taken away?”
  • “When the new Anderson High School is going to be built?”
  • “How long has the Town Hall has been around for?”
  • “What was the hardest decision they have ever debated?”
  • “Have you ever wished a debate had gone a different way?”

We learned interesting facts like when the Town Hall was built 1881 and at the time it cost £4000 to build.

Billy supplied us with yummy biscuits, juice and water!

Tom has been chosen as the candidate for election to the Shetland Parliament for the Shetland Intelligence Party. Tom will be an excellent choice for the voters as he has lots of experience and skills.

Some of the issues Tom will be campaigning about are health care and transport. However the most important issue is pollution because it damages the environment.

The candidate has stated that “I am really looking forward to the upcoming election, I hope that my party will improve Shetland and make it a better place to stay in”.

Our candidate will be giving a speech at Tingwall Primary School on the 18th May and hopes that people will come along and listen. This is your chance to listen and make an informed choice about who you think will be the best person to represent you.

Making Movie Trailers

For the last week of term, we have made movie trailers. We will be screening them before a DVD like you would do in the cinema on Friday. We also be getting popcorn to eat.

We first had to come up with an idea for our film. We then had to choose our genre (movie type). Then we had to think of our roles. Next we made props and found costumes. We had to plan it out on paper – on a layout called a  Storyboard.

We made posters to advertise our film. We filmed our trailers using iMovie.

Here is what some of our class had to say:

“It was fun and easier than adverts for the boardgames” – says Chrissie

“It was fun to pretend to be an actor” – says Gary

“I liked how we got to work together as a team” – says Amy

“I enjoyed it” – says Ella

Here are some pictures taken for our trailers. We will be posting our film trailers on our blog on Friday!

World War Two Costumes

On Thursday Izzy brought us in some World War 2 costumes. Most of the costumes were itchy and heavy and they were lot’s of buttons! There was an actual dress from the 1930s. It was very different to wear. They didn’t wear trackies, leggings or hoodies.

These are some of the pictures we took:

Red Nose Day

Today we dressed up for Red Nose Day and World Book Day.

We dressed up as our favourite characters from books or films. We could also come in our pyjamas or onesies inside out or back to front.

We had a World Book Day quiz in our class. Could you answer any of these questions?

  • Name 2 Roald Dahl books
  • What 3 animals did the mouse meet in the Gruffalo story?
  • What type of creature is Dobby in the Harry Potter books?

We also bought home bakes and red noses. We had a book sale, Tombola, three dice challenge and a darts challenge.

Thank you to the Pupil Council for organising a great day! And thanks to everyone else for their donations and home bakes!

It was a very fun day!
