This month we are going to think about food where ir comes from and how our choices in diet are influenced.

Our Learning Intentions

  • To extend knowledge and understanding of local and global issues affecting food choice.
  • To understand key aspects of food marketing and advertising and how this can influence what they choose to eat.

Week beginning March 8th

Go online and visit a supermarket. Make a list of food that the shop sells that is made in Scotland.

Are the Scottish ones cheaper than the same type of food bought abroad?

What things do you like to eat that do not grow in Scotland, make a list.

Week Beginning March 1

Make a fruit salad or smoothie– use maps/atlas etc to find out the ‘food miles’ the different fruits have travelled.  Investigate which foods have travelled the furthest.  Discuss/debate issues related to food miles and the effects on the economy and environment eg, cost; fossil fuels.

If you are in school plan a fruit salad or smoothie

Make a list of reasons for and against importing foods from other countries.
