Our Week in Room 16

Written by Room 16:

Hi, this is Room 16, we are going to tell you our update on our learning.

Our topic is about Ancient Greece and we are making ancient columns with teabags, to have an old type of look on the drawing, like it was hundreds of years old! In maths we have been looking at angles, we have looked the right angle, and acute, and obtuse, and 90 degrees. We know that a straight line is 180 degrees and a full shape is 360 degrees. We have been learning about symmetry and we found some symmetry around the class with mirrors.

We’ve also been making PowerPoints for our Ancient Greece topic, we designed our front cover page and some people moved on to a second page.

For literacy, we have been learning the ‘oi’ phoneme and we wrote a short story about it and it was so fun! We also did persuasive writing about coming to Athens and Sparta.

For PE, we have been learning about rounders and we also did a big match with Room 15.

Thank you for reading our Room 16 blog, have a good weekend!

Le temps ☀🌦

Over the last few weeks Room 6 have been learning vocabulary for different forms of weather in French. We learned the French words for:
It is nice – Il fait beau
It is sunny – Il y a du soleil
It is hot – Il fait chaud
It is windy – Il fait du vent
It is raining – Il pleut
It is stormy – Il y a de l’orage
It is cloudy – Il fait nuageux
It is snowing – Il neige
We practised this vocabulary using flash cards and some games of Splat on the board to develop our knowledge. We then created some actions to help us remember what words meant what weather. We worked together to make weather posters and had fun creating weather fortune tellers that we could take home to practise with our family members.

Girls Football Club

Hi there,

Exciting news – we are currently trying to start a new girls football team in the area and are starting to gather interest. It is going to be run by Thorniewood Utd and we hope to have trial sessions running over summer. I know the interest in girls football is growing all across Scotland so we’re really keen to get girls involved. I know you all have girls currently playing in your school teams but probably not a huge amount of them play for a community team so this could be a great opportunity for them.

If your child is interested please complete the Google Form below.

Many thanks – hopefully we can get lots of your girls signed up and playing very soon ⚽.

Room 13 Last Week

Hello everyone,

In Numeracy last week, we have been learning about 3d shapes. We were learning some of their names, and what faces, edges and vertices are in 3d shapes. We have also continued our times table practice.

For Grammar, we looked at sentences with and without speech marks. From these we were able to work out that the words being spoken needed speech marks before and after the spoken words and punctuation is needed before closing the speech mark. In Reading, the blue birds and red rabbits have joined together to read a skinny novel called “Aliens Stole my Dog” and the Green Giraffes are now onto level 9 of Engage Literacy and are reading a book called “Little Sea Horse and Big Crab”.

In Science, we’ve been learning about light, heat, electric, movement and sound energy. We thought about all the energy we use in our daily lives. Next week we will start looking at where this energy comes from.

In Health and Wellbeing, we have been learning about stereotypes when talking about jobs. I was very impressed with the maturity on display when it was suggested that anyone can do any job they want to do but they will need to work hard to achieve this.

Our topics this term are Pop Art and Euro 2024. We joined up with Rooms 9 and 11 for P.E. and enjoyed dribbling, passing and shooting drills. We have had a brief look at Andy Warhol and made some Pop Art with bubble writing in his style that we will get up on our topic wall for display.

We’re trialling a new table layout in class, so the classroom might look a little bit different when the children return on Tuesday.

Enjoy the bank holiday if it applies to you and have a great week.

Kind Regards,

Mr Dalling.

Hello everyone, here is a little update from Room 5.

RMcB – When we were playing with Lego, me and Finlay made a football stadium. The football is red, there is an audience and a scoreboard.

FM – On this month it is Sports Day. We have been practising and I am in group 2 with Ronin, Denis and Leo.

JD – We have been learning about division. Division is when you share numbers, counters, dots. When you put them in a circle and you have how many dots the number is you rub it out.

LP – We learned a new phoneme – ss. There are some words with it in it – dress, lesson, class, guess.

OW – We had a Star Citizen certificate at assembly today.

LD – We were writing sentences. We had to fill in the missing word and it was ‘to’, ‘too’, ‘two’.

JMcM – We did Science with Ms Gray.

Just a little reminder that school will be closed on Monday 6th May and will re-open Tuesday 7th. Have a lovely long weekend everyone! 🙂
