Alternatively, you can pay online using the link below. If you decide to purchase online, please complete the slip which will be provided stating what you have purchased so orders can be delivered accurately. November Progress in Room 14

We spent this afternoon sorting real food from Miss Anderson’s shopping bag into the different food groups. We then drew our favourite food into the correct section. The Eatwell plate helped us. We will be learning more in class about this and thinking about how important it is to get enough sleep.

During Social Studies lessons we have been learning lots about the 1960s. We have created a large class timeline showing major events throughout the decade. We then had a go at working with a partner to create our own.

In Literacy, we are learning how to spell words using the 5 finger strategy for the different representations of ie: y as in sky, fly, shy, ie as in lie, pie, die, tries, fries and i-e as in dive, five, hide, wide.

In Mathematics we have moved onto learning to Tell the Time. There are some super games on Topmarks to help learning how to tell the time using an analogue and digital displays.

During Expressive Arts we learned about British artist Andy Goldsworthy. He creates pictures and sculptures using nature and calls his artwork, ‘Land Art’. We went an autumn walk around the school grounds. We gathered stones, twigs and leaves then created our own masterpieces. They are really effective.

Looking forward to talking to parent/carers on Thursday evening.

Autumn Art 🍂

Room 6 enjoyed exploring both measure and art styles this week.
On Friday afternoon, we began our new non-number topic, this being measure. We were very good at identifying different equipment that can be used to measure objects, such as rulers, measuring tapes, metre sticks and cubes. Using cubes, we had fun working in pairs to measure different items in the classroom, such as whiteboard pens, glue sticks, dice, paper and a few of our own chosen objects. We learned that the paper was the longest as it used 14 cubes, while the die was the shortest as it used only one cube.
On Thursday, we enjoyed creating an autumn piece during art. To begin with, we looked at pictures and discussed the different shapes leaves could be. We then all chose a leaf shape and drew this on a sheet of A5 paper before cutting this out. Once this was cut out, we placed the leaf in the middle of a piece of sugar paper with a bit of bluetack. Next, we used sponges and autumnal colours to create a design around our leaves. Finally, we removed the leaf cut out to reveal a lovely autumn picture. Take a look!
Here are some of Room 6’s comments on their learning this week:
HW – I liked taking the book I chose from the library home as part of homework.
HG – I loved learning about the difference between schools and transport in our Katie Morag topic.
QO – I liked doing the adding sums.
JR – I liked doing our number stories for homework.
BM – I liked reading our bug club book in class.
IW – I liked doing the Katie Morag activities.
EM – I like learning about the small school on the Island of Coll and seeing the pictures.
SG – I liked learning more about Katie Morag’s island.

Have a super week everyone!

🪖WW2 Class Museum in Room 21🎖️

Room 21 were very lucky on Wednesday to have their own WW2 museum in the class! Miss McIver’s uncle collects lots of World War 2 items and we were lucky enough to be able to have these in our class for us to look at. There were so many cool things to see like uniforms, helmets, pieces from both British and German kit bags, gas masks and medals! We all wrote down our favourite facts/items that we saw. Lots of us thought it was an interesting fact that Hugo Boss designed the German Police (Nazi) uniforms! Mrs Ferguson also came into our class to share some of her Grandpa’s things from the war like medals and letters to his family. Thanks Miss McIver and Mrs Ferguson for sharing these things with us!

Have a look at the photos to see all the different things we were able to look at.
