Learning with Room 6

Room 6 have had another fabulous week. This week, we finished our handprints for our class charter, and we agreed upon 5 different rights for us to focus on in the class. We then picked the colour of paint that represented the right, and used our handprint to show the importance of that right.

We were very active in our learning this week, we played subtraction bowling and used the coat hangers to help us learn about subtraction. For spelling we started playing ‘speed write’ which is when we write our words as many times as we can before the 1 minute timer runs out and practiced writing our words in the sand trays. For our Topic ‘Super Duper Me’, we created ‘Super Me’ superheroes!

Well done to everyone this week, hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Another Great Week in Room 20

PE

In PE we have been doing badminton and we are currently working on backhand and our stances. When Mr MacKay is in we do rugby, learning throws we have learned always to throw from our side and to look all around in case the ball is coming towards you.

Stories

We also did our weekly story on Thursday.  The options were the trapped girl or the secret bunker some people was talking about both in one story. You could either continue with the same characters or start a new story. We had so much fun doing this.

Maths

In maths we were d0ing pace value to ten millions moving and removing numbers in the columns. We aso did math stations. We had chromebooks, calculators, drawing boards and more

SLC consultation

Please see information below from South Lanarkshire Council.

Local Development Plan 3

We’d like to invite you to tell us how you rate your place. To explain the background on why we are seeking your views, over a 10-year period, the Local Development Plan (LDP 3) will identify places where things like shops, parks, schools, housing, jobs, transport, and healthcare etc. will be located to best meet the needs of the entire South Lanarkshire area (please view this short video https://youtube.com/watch?v=ap84TZZczFE&si=pU7YBF3ksnt8eEPu)

Your council has started work on preparing LDP 3, but we recognise that for it to be done right, it needs to reflect what communities want for their places as they are the experts on what works well and needs protected, what needs improved, or what needs provided, and so we want to hear from as many people as possible that live, learn, work, or visit South Lanarkshire.

It may seem a long time away but the lifespan of LDP 3 will for example, coincide with when you might be looking for a job or a home in the future, or for right now, what types of places you want to play and hang out with friends. This is your Plan, and you have hugely valuable opinions that will help greatly to shape your community in the future. There can be no wrong answers, as they are based on how you feel about your place borne from your unique lived experiences, and no one can tell us better about that than you.

This is your chance to have your say. Using this link Local Development Plan 3 (LDP3) – South Lanarkshire Council you can access a survey that lets you tell us what you think about your place based around common factors. The survey is intended to be quick and easy to complete so please feel free to only score those which are of interest to you, there is no requirement to complete every entry. If you want to tell us more about your scoring or offer suggestions for improving your place, please fill in the optional comments section. Your thoughts are important, and whether you offer an opinion on one or all factors, we really appreciate you sharing them with us.

The survey closes on 30 September 2024.

Our Week in Room 14

Our Week in Room 14

We have had a fantastic week in Room 14. We made very good progress  with our Class Charter. We were inspired by the book we read as a class, ‘The Lorax’ by Dr Seuss. Esme created an illustration and we created a spider diagram of ideas, after discussing the UNCRC. We spoke about what rights children have and what we will all do to ensure they have them while in school. We then chose the rights we felt were most important/relevant in our classroom, painted truffula tufts and tree trunks and stuck the rights to them. We enjoyed painting them and then all added our names to it. We then chatted about what makes us special/unique and decorated our own truffula tree with words we think describe us, e.g. brave, smart, funny, friendly, thoughtful. The trees were coloured in brightly and added to the class charter display. We hope you like the (almost) finished product! We will add the last few individual trees this week.

Room 3’s Little Lambs 🐑

This week in Room 3, we enjoyed learning and reading different books, rhymes and poems that featured a farm. On Tuesday, we listened to the nursery rhyme Mary Had a Little Lamb and had fun practising this, as well as finding the rhyming words and counting the syllables in some of the words.

As part of our Literacy learning, we put our arts and crafts skills to use on Tuesday afternoon and designed our own lambs by colouring the lambs and gluing some cotton wool on to make them fluffy. Have a look at some of our designs below.

We are also still working on our class charter and have had a chat about ways we can stay safe, learn and play in the classroom. These ideas have been added to our display.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Room 5 – Our week in action

What another busy week for Room 5!

We have been building upon our previous learning of number bonds to 10 by using the systematic approach to help us identify the pattern of the number bonds and the relationship between each of these. We used coat hangers and pegs to show a visual of these bonds and then used this to find the correlating bond ( 8+2 is the same as 2+8). A great resource to use at home to practise and showcase your learning!

Take a look at our busy week in action…

Megaball!!

This morning, some of the P7s got to have fun with Katy, our Active Schools Coordinator and Megaball!

First we had to use our tummies, bottoms and hips to bounce the ball around the circle, then we tried to chase people with the ball – Niamh said she felt like she was in Indiana Jones!

We thought it was a bit odd when Katy told us to lie down, but then we played a game to try and beat the ball while Katy rolled it over us all. It was a blast.

This afternoon we watched a movie and ate ALL the snacks!

Room 6’s Week

We were so lucky to share two of our P.E slots this week, one with Room 4 and one with Room 8. We played lots of games together, and Miss Curley and Miss Livingstone joined in during Dance Tig!

We learned about number bonds to 10, addition and subtraction to 20 and we learned about the commutative law in maths (the numbers in addition sums can be swapped around and we still get the same answer!). We had lots of active learning fun using the clothes hangers and pegs and counting blocks this week, and even had the opportunity to get the paint out and print our handprints for our class charter! Take a look at our pictures below.

Well done on another amazing week Room 6! Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
