Room 27

Hi all,

This week Room 27 have been working hard.

We have been:

  • Reading High Rise Mystery – and having heated debates about who is behind it all!
  • Working hard with Miss Higgins when learning about measure and converting different measurements
  • Having excellent discussion with Miss Higgins about substances and some of their dangers
  • Learning about how World War 2 started, and the key figures behind it
  • Understanding more about the blitz, how it affected towns and cities, and the lengths people had to go through during it
  • Completing our work on fractions, we can now multiply fractions, find different ranges of a number and simplify fractions

Here is some of our Blitz artwork, we practised using chalk to create the fire and light effects.

Have a lovely weekend when it comes,

Primary 1/2

What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in P1/2!

Literacy
This week in Literacy, we have been consolidating all of the sounds we have previously learned. The children have been working hard to recognise these sounds and use them confidently. We have been practising blending sounds to read words and writing words independently. The children have shown great effort and growing confidence as they apply their learning.

Numeracy
In Number, we have continued working on subtraction. The children have been learning that when we take away, the number gets smaller. We have practised counting back on a number line to help solve subtraction problems, using songs, games and practical activities to support understanding.

Our favourite parts of the week
The children really enjoyed sharing what they liked best about their learning this week:

CS – I liked designing my own tartan.

MS – I liked playing with the Lego.

AR – I liked singing the number song and taking away with a number line.

BR – I liked making tartan.

KJO – I liked learning the Scots words: β€˜wee’ means small.

KO – I liked making a snake with the snowflakes in the construction area.

AN – I liked playing with the cars.

FM – I liked the big number song and making tartan.

AM – I liked playing with the Lego.

DM – I liked using the Indi’s.

HM – I liked playing with the Indi’s.

EM – I liked the Soda Pop Just Dance.

Room 5’s Week

It has been a learning filled week in Room 5 this week.

We started the week learning a new sound ‘y’ that makes the ‘igh’ sound. We also learned 4 more common words ‘fly, bring, Mr. , two’. We enjoyed lots of different active spelling tasks to practice this.

We are revising our knowledge on the 2 times table, and how this is the same as doubling a number. We are excited as next week we are going to look at the 5 and 10 times table properly.

For our scottish island topic, the children have been creating their own islands and have enjoyed exploring it through play. They are really enjoying learning about Scotland.

Next week we are consolidating in number and literacy, practicing lots of previous learning.

Please note, there has been a homework update. New homework will now go out on Tuesdays, and homework to be returned on Mondays.

Reminder: Indoor P.E on Thursday, Outdoor P.E on Monday. If you can make sure your child has a change of clothes in their bags, just as they can sometimes get a bit mucky when out playing and this helps to make sure they are comfy.

Pupil Voice:

Calvin: I liked playing in the den i built.

Hollie: I enjoy watching Katie Morag whilst learning Scottish Islands. I also like playing with the INDI’s.

Alice: I enjoyed learning the new sound ‘y’

Ollie:Β  I enjoyed playing with the INDI’s.

Kai: I liked learning about the describing bubble.

Thanks, Miss Livingstone.

Room 8’s fun start to the year!

Hello, and a belated Happy New Year from room 8!

Since starting back, we have been super busy learning about lots of new things.

In maths we have been learning about subtraction with borrowing, when we have to β€˜borrow’ from the tens column.

We have started our new IDL topic where the children have been deciding what they want to learn about based on our question β€˜What makes Scotland wonderful?’. This has tied in nicely to Robert Burns day as we have gotten the chance to explore the history of his life. We also decided that we would like to learn more about Scottish football and so we are super excited for our trip to Hampden!!

In PE we have started hockey with Uddingston Hockey Club and fitness with Miss Nimmo which have both been super fun so far.
