Room 20 Update

We’ve had a really busy week in Room 20 again.

Writing

We finished our current block of Narrative Writing this week with a spooky story about a Haunted Building.  We were focussing on creating a detailed description of setting.  We learned about different descriptive techniques including powerful verbs to describe the characters reactions, alliteration, personification and using descriptive adjectives.  We were really pleased with how well our stories turned out this week.

Hallowe’en Party

We had a spooky fun time at our Hallowe’en party on Thursday afternoon.  There were super costumes including Alvin and the Chipmunks, Slim Shady, Sully from Monsters Inc, Skeletons, Captain Underpants and spooky ghosts.  Mr. JC looked the part as Where’s Wally, but it was quite easy to spot him!

We played some party games including musical chairs, musical bumps and pass the parcel.  We chose some of our favourite music to make a playlist and had lots of fun dancing and singing.

Scotland Work

We continued to work on our History of Scotland topic and finished the timeline.  This is now up on display in our classroom and includes lots of details about key events in Scotland’s past.

Adobe Express

The highlight of our week was learning how to use a new programme on our Chromebooks called Adobe Express.  Everyone is getting this for free in their Glow accounts.

It is a programme that helps us to make videos and graphics.  We followed a tutorial online to make a video all about recycling.  We learned how to include video backgrounds, record voice overs, insert transitions, animate and how to include backing music.

We’ve started to make a second one all about Scotland that we will be sharing at assembly in a few weeks.

Have a look at an example of one of the videos we made.  We think you’ll be very impressed at how professional it is.

The other boys and girls have theirs saved in their Google Drive and will be able to show you at home.
