A Busy Few Weeks in Room 2!

Our Social Studies topic this term is ‘People Who Help Us’. We started off by looking at all the different people who help us in school. This ranged from our teachers, to the cleaners and to the office staff. We spoke about how they helped keep us safe in school and learned about some of their job roles. We then moved on to looking at people who help us in our local community. We have learned about the police and paramedics and what they do to help us, what they wear and how to identify them out and about.

We had a special visit last Tuesday from two police officers. They came wearing their police uniforms and told us all about the various jobs that they might work on. We also got a chance to try on some of the police uniforms and hold one of the heavy helmets. Mrs Rae even got arrested (just for a short moment) to demonstrate a potential unsafe situation. The pupils were very intrigued by this aspect of the job. We have really enjoyed learning about the police and have even turned our role play area in class into a police station. In our creative area we have designed our own police badges and even filled in ‘Wanted’ posters!

We have had lots of visitors to our class this week too. As part of our child-led play, we did a little ‘play swap’. Half of the class went up to one of the Primary 7 classes to play and some of the Primary 7s came down to our class. It was great to see the children play together using play-doh, Lego and even completing board games. We are having another ‘play swap’ on Thursday morning and we can’t wait to share our learning through play with our friends.

On Tuesday, we had Primary 4 come to see us for some paired reading. Room 2 enjoy listening to stories and this was a good opportunity for the Primary 4s to practise their reading with expression skills. Thank you for visiting us!
