Last week, Room 6 made good use of the sunny weather and got outside. We have been learning about halves and quarters in our mathematics learning and have been exploring different ways you can split shapes into fractions.
We learned that if a shape is split into two equal pieces, it is called halves. If you split a shape into 3 equal pieces, it is called thirds and if you split a shape into 4 equal pieces, it is called quarters. We also recognised the importance of each piece being equal when using fractions.
When focussing on fractions, we discussed that if one half is coloured, it can be written as 1/2, if one third is coloured then it can be written as 1/3 and if one quarter is coloured then it can be written as 1/4. These are called fractions. We used the bottom number of each of these fractions to work out how many pieces made up the shape.
We enjoyed practising drawing shapes and splitting them into halves and quarters using chalk. Have a look at our amazing work!

HW – I really enjoyed getting my certificate for the road safety competition and I am really happy for Emily to get 1st place.Â
