This week in Room 7

What a fabulous week it has been in Room 7! The children have worked so hard and should be very proud of their learning. Here is a little update on what we have been doing.

In Literacy, we have been consolidating our sounds ‘ai’, ‘oy’ and ‘oa’, practising our common words and continuing to develop our skills in reading aloud. We have also been focusing on the reading strategy ‘Find it, prove it, talk about it’ to show our understanding.

In Numeracy, we have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and have been exploring place value by partitioning two digit numbers into tens and ones. We used cones and counters to help with this then had great fun using the number mats and chalk to show this in the playground.

On Tuesday, we enjoyed a visit from Ian from the Chaplaincy Team. He played a game with us that tested our memories and our listening skills. This showed us how practising things over and over can really help us in our learning.

After Ian left we talked more about all the different ways in which we learn and how we can encourage ourselves and each other to keep trying our best. We learned a new song about not giving up and sticking with things, even if they are tricky at first. We have played the song a few times over the week and it has really helped to encourage us (we may even have enjoyed a wee dance too😊)

We have also been reading a story called ‘The Selfish Crocodile’ about a crocodile who did not want to share his river with the other animals until he was helped by a little mouse. We loved this story because it showed the importance of kindness, sharing and friendship.

Throughout the week we have continued to learn about our rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. We focused on the right to be safe, the right to have a home, the right learn, the right to be heard and the right to play. We made some very pretty hand prints to display these 5 rights in our classroom.

In PE, we have been developing our skills in throwing and catching and have been working on our agility.

We are really looking forward to having an extra special job at assembly tomorrow where we will be sharing all of this learning with the other P1 and P2 classes. How exciting!

Well done Room 7, it has been a pleasure working with you this week!

Miss Macfarlane 😊
