Congratulations GSYT!

Glasgow Schools’ Youth Theatre Celebrate Two Outstanding Nights with Sister Act Jr.

Glasgow Schools’ Youth Theatre took to the stage at the Tron Theatre on 10th and 11th February with two sold-out performances of Sister Act Jr. — marking a significant milestone for the group.

Founded by Ronnie Mackie as a way to foster and develop the theatrical skills of Glasgow school pupils from all backgrounds, GSYT has a proud history of staging full-scale musicals in professional venues across the city. Following its recent reformation, this production represents the first time in two years that the company has performed in a professional theatre space — and what a triumphant return it was.

Featuring young people from secondary schools across Glasgow, the cast delivered energetic, heartfelt performances filled with humour, confidence and powerful gospel-inspired music. From the very first number to the final curtain call, audiences were treated to an uplifting celebration of community, friendship and the transformative power of music.

Under the direction of Gillian Gray, with Musical Director Elaine Waddell, Stage Manager and Assistant Director Amy Ross, Producer Kirsty Ferns, Costume Designer Fiona Boyce and stage crew Tomasz Miller, Kadee Drummond and Geoff Nolan, the production showcased not only exceptional performance talent but also the teamwork, dedication and professionalism of everyone involved behind the scenes.

Special thanks go to Jemima Levick, Lisa Keenan and the entire Tron Theatre team for their generous support in welcoming our young people into such an iconic venue. Performing on a professional stage provided an invaluable experience and an unforgettable opportunity for the cast.

Sister Act Jr. (Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Glenn Slater, Book by Bill & Cheri Steinkellner, with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane) is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

Congratulations to all involved — performers, creative team and supporters — for two truly joyful evenings of theatre.
