Former Glasgow Schools’ Big Band musician Alice Faye named “Sound of Young Scotland” 2025

Former Glasgow Schools’ Big Band musician Alice Faye has been named The Sound of Young Scotland 2025 at The Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award ceremony in Dundee’s Caird Hall.

Chosen from a strong shortlist of five emerging artists, Alice receives a funding package worth up to £10,000 to support the recording and release of her debut album. The award is supported by Help Musicians, the Scottish Government’s Youth Music Initiative through Creative Scotland and Youth Music, and exists to help young Scottish artists take the next big step in their career.

A former member of Glasgow Schools’ Big Band, Alice has gone on to build a growing profile as a singer-songwriter and vocalist, with a distinctive “retro-pop / pop-opera” sound and a string of high-profile live performances and radio play. On receiving the award, she told the audience how much the Scottish music scene means to her, adding:

“I love making music, and I love Scotland so much, and I love the Scottish music scene… I’m a lot happier now! I really didn’t think I’d get it so thank you thank you so much!”

Through this award, Alice will gain studio support, business advice, peer mentoring and up to 250 vinyl pressings of her debut album, as well as a performance slot at the 2026 SAY Award Ceremony.

Everyone at Glasgow CREATE and Glasgow Schools’ Big Band is incredibly proud of Alice and delighted to see her talent recognised on a national stage.
