Mathematics

Welcome to I love mathsEastwood High School’s Mathematics department.

Within the Mathematics department there are a number of courses available:

S1 – S3 – Broad General Education.

S4 – National 4 or National 5.

S5/6 – National 5 or CfE Higher Mathematics.

S6 – CfE Advanced Higher Mathematics.

During your time at Eastwood, you will learn and explore a wide variety of mathematical topics such as “Number”; “Shape”; “Algebra”; and “Statistics”.

In addition to daily and regular formal homeworks that will be marked by your teacher, you will complete a number of progress assessments or unit assessments each year.  These allow us to track and monitor your progress which provides us with important information to further and maximize your success.

Numeracy is the ability to use mathematics in everyday life and helping you to become increasingly numerate is important to use in the mathematics department. We make sure that you will be equipped to achieve your mathematical potential and become increasingly confident in your mathematical ability!

Mathematics will teach you a way of thinking. Studying mathematics will train you to become an excellent problem solver. By learning with us, you will be become more equipped to solve a host of problems outside of the classroom in your everyday life.

Help is always on hand in the mathematics department. As well as being very approachable during the school day, we provide a number of supported study sessions after school for a variety of our courses.  There are also a number of great websites that can be used to help improve your knowledge and understanding:
