Numeracy and Origami

The Transition boys were Successful Learners when they used their numeracy skills to complete two tasks. They made origami Christmas craft following numbered sections and creating ‘up’ or ‘down’ folds. They then made different 3D shaped snowmen again following a numbered pattern and had to match their shapes to a different set on the interactive board. Well done boys!

St Andrew’s Day

We have celebrated St Andrew’s day this week at a whole school assembly.  We explored directional awareness through Scottish dancing at numeracy time.  We started off with a slow dance then built up to the fastest song to finish. There was lots of laughter and successful learners with saying the directions we were moving in.

In between directional awareness we worked 1:1 on our coin recognition and reading a price tag and handing over the correct amount of money.  Jack worked very well during this task.

Keeping with our St Andrew’s Day theme we made shortbread in cooking and then decorated them in class with a Scotland flag on them.

Willow the Bear is off to Aberdeen!!!

For our new Theme – Scottish Cities – we are studying Aberdeen. So Willow the Bear  is packing his case and heading off to explore the Granite City! On Saturday he is getting the train to Edinburgh with Mrs Wilson, and then Mrs Wilson’s daughter Heather will be taking him the rest of the way.

Willow has been getting in on all our activities this week.

We having been working on our numeracy skills this week – one of our activities was a game of BINGO – Adam won!!

During the game Shannon tried to distract Reece by getting the remote for her chair and making it go up – Reece thought this was really funny!!

Melanie laughed when Reece was helping her with her numbers and had the 5 upside down.

Reece has been a successful learner and used the ICT to do some of her numeracy – Adam enjoyed this too!

For cookery this week we made Children in Need Biscuits – yummy!!!

Directional Awareness

We used active learning in numeracy today to bring direction to life. We had fun moving the cars and the adults in the directions that were called out and shown on the cards.

We were successful learners when given gestural prompts for the given direction.

We chose a partner to play a game with, we were confident individuals when choosing a partner, choosing a game and we played the games with minimal adult support.

SQA – Numeracy

On our outing this week we went shopping to choose something for our snack, everyone had £1.50 and could choose whatever they wanted as long as it was within their budget.

This is part of our SQA numeracy unit which is handling money.

Everyone  had to read the price tag and check they had the correct amount.  Some people chose to spend all their money and others chose  cheaper items and received change.

We were all responsible citizens and were very aware of road safety.
