Getting ready for our Trip

This week we have taken part in a lot of our IDL topic work.  We were confident individuals learning about the process of going to the airport.  Then we went to our Oak Travel Agents to book our holiday to Australia.  The boys were able to be effective communicators to share information about their dream holiday.

They worked on their literacy skills, reading, writing and signing / speaking to tell their friends how many people were going on their holiday, the type of accommodation they would like to sleep and their mode of transport to get to Australia.

This week we were effective contributors to help make our Lamington Australian cake,  the boys listened to instructions well when baking this cake.

It’s a Thursday Treat!

On Thursday the boys in Transition were all Effective Contributors when working in the cookery room. We have been focusing on healthy treats in cooking over the past while and decided the boys deserved a wee treat so we made some flapjacks. There was no picture of the final product as the whole thing was devoured by both boys and staff.

Looking after our Earth

As part of Earth day we have taken part in activities all week that have been linked to looking after our Earth.

We used no electricity when taking part in our cooking lesson, we walked into town rather than using transport and we tidied up our garden patch.

We all were effective contributors when making our no bake truffles, we all had an important role to play in the process.

We worked hard on learning how to tell the time working on our ILP targets.

We walked into town with the Transition class, we went to the shops to buy colourful items for our garden patch to help brighten it up.  We are yet to be successful in growing any plants, so we are brighten up it up in other ways.

Easter Treat During Cooking

The boys in the Transition class were all Effective Contributors today in the cookery room. They were practising their peeling and chopping skills and ended up making some corned beef hash with the potatoes they peeled. Obviously while the potatoes were cooking the boys got to have a little treat so made their own Easter Baskets using chocolate and shredded wheat. There was even enough spare that all the staff got to enjoy one.

Pizza Pals

Our cookery class this week was a wee bit different with our boys in Transition inviting the Beech class along to enjoy some Pizza with us. All the boys were Confident Individuals when taking the orders of the boys and girls from Beech and creating the pizza they chose on the order form. Of course Beech returned the favour so our boys could enjoy a pizza of their own as well. Well done to both classes involved.

Cracking Cooking!

The Transition boys decided to try cooking eggs in different ways to pick a favourite. They had an eggs-cellent time! They were Effective Contributors with all tasks; setting the table, making the toast, cracking the eggs, adding eggs to a hot pan, taking the tea order and waiting until everything was ready so the class could share their meal. The boys were sensible – no yolking around!

The boys made scrambled, poach, boiled and fried eggs. The boys really looked forward to it and fortunately it was all it was cracked up to be. They were all eggs-hausted once all the washing up was finished.

Time For a Grill Up

Following on from the Transition Boys’ Healthy/Unhealthy lesson they explored alternative cooking methods to make a cooked breakfast healthy. The boys were all Responsible Citizens when they correctly identified the correct kitchen equipment and used it in a safe manner. Some of the boys took charge of the drinks orders and made sure that everyone was well looked after.
